iOS5 - Text tones & vibrate not working

Today brought a whole new set of issues with iOS 5.

I have chosen a text tone sound effect ( Super Mario Coin Sound ), and they will work for a while, then stop working. The vibrate won't work, the sound won't work. Nothing.

I have restored, reset, and resynced the tones and still nothing.

Is anyone else having this problem? Has anyone been able to fix it?

Mantan,

Nothing has changed in the settings. It was working, and now it's not. The phone has been sitting on my desk for hours and only when I picked it up to look at it did I see that I had about 15 texts. I called my friend and asked him to text me while I adjusted settings and nothing happened.

The text would come through, the screen would turn on, but no sound or vibrate.

My ringtone works - but not off the other alerts work. I turn all of the vibrates off - select a new 'tone' no preview - nothing. If I turn on Vibrate with the sound - I get the double brr, brr - but still no sound. this is on an UPGRAGED 4 to iOS5.

OK - reboot fixed the problem - in case anyone else is having the problem.

I am having the same problem. On my iPhone 4 upgraded to iOS 5 I bought and downloaded the R2D2 Curt and R2D2 Happy tones and set them for calendar reminders and text messages, respectively. If I set them to one of the default tones, the vibrate and alert tones sound like normal. But if I select one of the purchased tones, there's no vibrate and no tone played, just a message on the lock screen.

This is very frustrating. At least iOS is supposed to support bite-size and/or over-the-air updates, right? So that this kind of thing can be fixed quickly and easily without having to download 700+MB of update file?

Please fix this, Apple.

So I was having the same problem and it was really ******* me off since I dLed all these text tones and they worked maybe once and then nothing but silence when my test messages came in. But I think I found the fix and it seems to be working smoothly now.

I looked up the requirements for making custom text tones and it says "a ringtone of 2-5 secs." Well, a lot of the nice text tones are 1 sec or less, e.g., 0.914ms in length. So I opened the file up in a wav editor, added another 1.25 sec of silence for good measure to get above the 2 sec requirement, reencoded to .m4a and then changed extension to .m4r. Boom, it seems to be working perfectly now, so far so good. Let me know if it works for you guys.
