How do I find URL to publish iCal to website after 10.7.2/iCloud update?

I have just transitioned successfully from MobileMe to iCloud and, by and large, everything now seems to be working correctly after a few small hiccups with duplicated data etc. However, in the previous version of OS X 10.7.1, using the MobileMe iCal, I was able to successfully publish one of my calendars on a web site. As it was updated on the Mac so it would update on the web site.

Try as I might I am unable to find out a) how to accomplish the same task with iCal in iCloud and b) where to find the correct URL for this updated calendar. Does anyone have any insights into this problem?

There are other services that that provide a web calendar from a webcal link that you can embed into a webpage.

For example: http://www.instantcal.com/api.html

Or http://www.google.com/calendar

Most should be able to handle timezones without shifting every event by 5 hours. Have you checked that the published calendar has timezone information added in the .ics file?

Best wishes

All,

It seems that we have discovered the initial limitations of iCal in iCloud - unable to do something that worked (eventually) pretty well in MobileMe. Talk about one step forward...!

I have now created an entirely separate calendar on Google, importing the initial data from an .ics file exported from iCal. Whilst it appears to do the job, the elegance that iCal with MobileMe brought to the job is missing. I now have to run two separate calendars for the same project; one for my iCloud devices such as iPhones and Macs and a matching one on Google.

No doubt in the fullness of time the good old settings will be restored, but one can't help but wonder why all the great, unbroken, stuff from MobileMe was not carried over into iCloud.

The almost finished calender can be found at:

This is, of course, not the end of things. As Churchill famously said, this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end, but it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.

i looked into instantcal somewhat, thank you for the info. i did manage to publish 1 calender, but not multiple ones within the same calendar frame. i wasn't a mobileme subscriber so i don't know who things were previously, yet should there be a solution to what i wish to do, it certainly is not an easy find. looking at the dynamics icloud displayed me while configuing instantcal to work, i am making the assumption that the icloud & google combination is going to bring similar results: web publishable, yet limited to one calendar per frame.

this is what i have at the moment, and it is great. a big difference from when i was juggling around with different schedules:

calendars in icloud <===> shared among my iMac/Air/iPhone devices

from what i have looked into until now is that (i am making a wild guess here), i might be able to share my iCal calendar on my iMac (which is basically turned on 24hr/365 days) using its calendar sharing feature with CalDAV rather than WebDAV. i could find only one free hosting site though, https://hub.chandlerproject.org/welcome . to be exact i am still looking into as to whether they really do provide such services but it does seem somewhat promising from the wording i see on their website.

so in a summary my challenge is this: publish my icloud based schedules via my iMac's iCal calendar sharing feature to a free CalDAV web hosting service, and see as to whether multiple calendars can be displayed within a single calendar frame, just in the way my iCal schedule looks like on iCloud.com

i'm going to do my homework, and if not able to see any progress, i'll visit my nearby apple store's genius bar. i happen to have a one-to-one subscribtion with them.

my chandler attempt didn't work, unfortunately. they have a web system, and a client system. i tried using both ways, but couldn't get done what i wished to reach.

the client part: it didn't install into 10.7, and it seems it only is supported until 10.5. it seems one is allowed to compile their own binaries, but do not want to go in the direction.

the web part. it seems to allows to be viewed, but does not act as an iCal client. so cannot let my calender be shared as such. i suppose the web part needs to used in conjunction of the client (which is not supported now on my OS version).

i tried out the icloud & google combination. share my icloud calendar using webcal and receive it in google calendar. it does attempt to contact icloud, but then i get a setting error saying something that robot.txt is not allowing any indexing on their server. which, does make sense, and am glad is so as i would prefer my calender not to be searchable on a search engine.

just to see how things are with my client side iCal, i requested to view my icloud schedule on my Mac, and was able to view it in iCal (so i had a duplicate calendar)

so with my knowledge and experience slowly being built, i finally came to think that what i need now is a free web hosting site that supports WebDAV and does not crawl against the icloud server. if google calender didn't attempt to index, we might have had it going.

and the search goes on ...

well, here is my last post regarding my finding over the past two three days.

i installed an iCal supporting application (sunbird in my case) onto ax XP machine and was able to sync my iCloud based schedules to it. uncomplicated and simple. i wished for a web based display method but Google Calendar is denied access to their system and nothing can be done about that. so should anyone wish to see my schedules, i will have to propose to them to install any type of iCal supporting appication. not what i had wished for, but at least they will not need to create an accout or login. here's a list of applications that support icalendar:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_applications_with_iCalendar_support

so this is where my journey ends regarding this topic.

thanks all for seeking a good answer, this totally ***** from Apple

It is typical of their recent lofty attitude

I'm a portrait photographer.

I want to put a "blank block" diary on my own website, so potential clients can see when I am free. I want the booked-out blocks of time visible, but of course I don't want anyone to see anyone else's identity/ phone numbers etc.

This (usually) worked with MobileMe, but iCloud seems dumbed down so much I don't understand ... Why can't I do stuff !?! I don't want strangers subscribing to my diary.

I have been an Apple preacher since the 1st macs. Now I am looking outside for a more customisable and less ipod driven paradigm.

Ha, I know I am WAY late to this post but the issue just arose.

The link still works and the steps are relevant still and VERY easy.

Thanks.

Is the calendar in question listed under your iCloud login or under 'On My Mac?' - if the former you can't publish it to a web page as you have previously (I gather the migration to iCloud moves all 'On My Mac' calendars to iCloud, which is not helpful). To quote my post above:

Only 'On My Mac' calendars can be published to a web page, so you will need to move the calendar in question back from iCloud to 'On My Mac' - please see the second set of numbered instructions on this page:

It's written for MobileMe and Snow Leopard, but I would assume that the principle was the same.

Once done you should be able to publish as before (unless something radical has been changed in the 10.7.2 update).

How do I find URL to publish iCal to website after 10.7.2/iCloud update?
