Buzzing noise when iPhone 4s vibrates

My new 4s buzzes loudly when the unit vibrates. It is not the sim slot or door as the noise exists with the sim and door out of the phone. The buzzing is almost as loud as an audible tone and quite annoying and distracting. Anyone else with this issue?

I have th same issue, it was fine for 10 days and now the buzzling started and is unbearable - I never use voice on the phone, as I have business meetings often, and this bug makes it worthless.

The best part is that in my country you cant replace the phone within 30 days, I have to give it back for warranty ( which means 14 days without a phone ).

With the number of issues in current batches Im actually thinking about waiting a month to get it replaced...

I wonder when Apple will give official statement on the buzz issue.

So, I've got the same issue, on day one of receiving my black 32 gig 4s. And believe it or not, I've seen this issue before... with my 3GS. I took it into an apple store, told them the issue and apparently it was a loose screw around the vibrate mechanism which they tightened for me. It didn't happen on the 3GS right away, however it was maybe a month or two old at the time. I'm going to take this into the Apple Store as soon as I can, polite as I can and describe the same issue and hopefully they can pop it open, tighten and good to go. After the initial tightening, my 3GS lasted fine and quiet as it should be (not rattling as it did in the soundwave someone else posted) for the remainder of my two year contract with ATT before I changed just today to Verizon.

Hopefully this helps. It's complete bull if they say it's never been an issue before, because it has, and at least the apple reps in the store I went to, were able to fix it.

This issue has been present on my phone since day 1. It is extremely irritating and undermines the purpose of a vibrate feature in the first place. I visited an Apple store yesterday, and though initially the Genius that took my case was sceptical, they later relented after I requested to speak to the manager. I was offered another phone and allowed to test it before the swap. The replacement was very similar and if anything slightly worse than my own. I tested a further 7 IPhone 4S phones that were on display. 4 were bad and made a vibrating noise similar to my own. 3 were good, one of those 3 was perfect and I would have almost swapped for that one if it wasn't a 16Gb model (mine is 32).

As a rough guess, I'd say it's 50/50 that you'll get a phone with this issue to some degree. I'll admit though that I'm very picky when it comes to things like this - quality is key and this noise is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

Given that it can be cured (on mine) by pinching the bottom right of the phone, I'm looking for ways to make a clip or similar that will pinch the phone at all times to stop the noise. This is actually more difficult as it sounds, as when you pinch although you don't realise it, you're actually putting quite a lot of force in. Most clips that I've made so far has not put on enough pressure to stop the noise. Work continues to find a cure!

I called apple support and they suggested I go to an apple store, but after I told them that I was over an hour from the nearest, they offered me a replacement. I had to be without a phone while I sent it in an waited for the replacement, but other than that, it was an easy experience. They didn't try to tell me it was normal for it to buzz.

Hopefully this new one doesn't start buzzing after a month like the last one did, because other than that, I really like the phone.

I might be the unluckiest Apple customer ever. I purchased an iMac and it had a dead pixel on it. Then I brought it back and tried 6 different iMacs in 3 different stores and the 7th one was the good one.

Then I ordered an iPhone 4S online. It got lost in the airport! I have never heard such a thing before. Without even asking me, they shipped another one and I received it yesterday.

It made that annoying noise while vibrating. I went to an Apple Store this morning and told the guy the issue. First he looked at me like I'm an idiot and said: 'I don't think that's a hardware problem'. Then I insisted and he brought it to the back of the Genius Bar. I was 100% sure that he would have come back to say 'This Phone is OK. Go home.'

10 minutes later, he came back and said 'OK, that's a hardware problem. I'll change it for you. Here is another one. Let's try that.'

We tried that one and that was fine. He said; 'I'm giving you this but you'll lose your 30-day guarantee.' I didn't understand anything but I had no choice. Then I came back, checked my e-mails and saw a post from Apple, saying that the phone that the guy gave me can be 'new or refurbished' and it's covered with a 90-day guarantee.

Now, I have no idea if my iPhone is new or refurbished. I'm also not sure if I have guarantee for 90 days, or if I lose my 30-day guarantee?! That's weird...

...

By the way, am I the only one who thinks that Apple changed since Steve Jobs passed away? My wife and some of my friends tell me the same thing. Most of the Apple people, including geniuses and customer support representatives, behave me like they hate me. I'd never experienced an issue about their attitude before. They had always been helpful and nice. The last 5-6 people were rude and disrespectful.

Today, when I entered the store, I asked the lady if it's possible to return an iPhone that I bought on Apple.com to an Apple Store. She was like; 'NO, YOU CAN'T. THAT'S OUR POLICY. YOU CANNOT SIR. THAT'S IT.' She didn't even look at my eyes and I never repeated or insisted. I just asked once very politely if that's possible or not.

Then the guy, who gave me that new (or refurbished) phone because of the annoying buzzing sound, showed up. He never smiled. At the end, just to make him smile, I asked: 'You think I'm crazy, right?'. With a very cold voice, he said 'No. I heard that noise too. Have a good day.'

Anyway... On my service record, it says:

Issue: Vibe motor is making unusual noise

Apple accepts that it's a hardware problem. If that bothers you, go and get yours but don't forget to ask if the new phone that they give you is refurbished or not.

Made an appointement with the Apple Store in Mississauga, Ontario - Square One location. Very nice helper but wouldn't hire him in a heart beat:

"Sir we moved a wire out of the way and if you have any more trouble, bring it back"

There was so much noise in the store I just left assuming it was repaired. Well you know the old saying; "when yoiu assume you make an *** ouf ot U and ME"

Same problem and I just don't have the time to go back an forth. I'll wait until the new year...wow😕
