solution for no mms/sms with iPhone 4s?

Just got my iPhone 4s and realized I am only able to send iMessage. SMS looks like it goes thru but they never get it. MMS won't send at all.

I see others have this same issue, but I haven't seen one post saying they found a resolution other than a few who said it mysteriously started working a few hours later again.

Anyone have suggestions? I already restored the phone, checked all my settings, etc. Tomorrow I'll go into the Apple store, but I'd love to fix it before then. Thanks!

i finally got my MMS problem fixed.

here are several random or just wrong messages in here with people having similar problems, but mine was the full blown NO MMS issue, with a verizon iphone4s

i have done all the procedures listed here, reset, new phone, *228s, config changes, reactivation, many calls to verizon.

in my case, and i bet for most here, the answer was simple.

if i reset the phone to factory settings and DON'T restore it.

it works for me. the first mms in 4 months went through.

all the verizon and apple guys had me restore the phone first thing. but that's what killed it again.

give it a try. if it doesn't work for you then you can restore it.

if a clean restore fixes it, don't be tempted to restore, just sync photos, and organize apps and all that over again.

For me my fix was to do a clean restore of the phone, and DO NOT use your back up. Set it up as a new phone.

I speak iphone flueltly and tried lots and lots of fixes. This was the only thing that worked and has worked flawlessly ever since. In most cases the issue was the backup being currupted. My case specifically was using the iphone on a different carrier and saving the back up which housed the mms settings from that carrier....and then switching to att, the new settings didn't change over. And we are unable to edit the apn's and such....so there you have it.

Good Luck

PLEASE READ: I HAVE A SOLUTION. (worked for me, anyway)

hey again! i posted a page or so ago with same problem.
my old solution: turned my cell data on, cleaned off my sim card and rebooted and re-insterted it into my phone. it DID work, for like 10 minutes, then was back to not working again. i pretty much gave up until i tried the recent solution posts!

in itunes, i restored my phone to factory default. once you do that, it asks if you'd like to restore all of your old settings from your phone or set it up as a new phone. at first i tried restoring from my old phone, but it didn't work.

i tried the restoring process again but this time chose to set it up as a NEW PHONE. i was still able to sync my contacts/apps after, but take note that your media will be gone.

anyway, IT WORKS. restore to factory defaults, set up as new phone, and voila!! i don't even have to have my cell data on to send/receive picture msgs...it works via wifi.

so far it's working like a charm. i will update again if it stops. try it for yourself and let me know if it works for you!

here is the detailed tutorial on how to restore your phone if you need it:

WELL, THAT WAS SHORT LIVED.

as hopeful as i was for my seemingly great solution, my problem is BACK. i was able to send/receive photos for about 2 days. it's back to not working again.

the only thing i've done differently than the 2 days previous is i transferred music back onto my phone. now pics msging is not working once again. no idea if its related or not.

i am honestly at a loss of what to do. i've tried everything now. like, literally. i've come to the conclusion that some phones are just defected.

This is really annoying as I have the same problem on the o2 network in the U.K

I've just tried to send an MMS to my girlfriend and it keeps showing the red ! and asking if I want to send again so I have tried it with the iMessage on and off, same as with the wifi on and off, cleaned the sim, reset the phone and still nothing.. I'm going mad!!! lol

Anyway, literally 1 minute ago, I have a phone call from my GF and she says, "wow, what a great picture!"

it tells me that it isn't sent but she still received it.. argh

Need a Galaxy S2 I think...

Scott..

ps. Is there no reply from Apple about this yet?!...

@John, I contacted O2 and they ran through all the settings with me and asked me to send a pic to myself and after resetting the phone it worked but then immediately tried sending another pic to someone else and it failed so it only lasted one mms and about 2mins lol..

Still no answer from Apple on this matter.. I am definately thinking of throwing my iPhone 4S away as I need to be able to send pictures for my job.. great update Apple, cheers..

Ok I have I have an I phone 4 and a 4s on both Phone running ios5.01. And I think its an I message problem both will send and receive mms and SMS with iMessage tuned off but when you turn it on you get nothing but text messages. I have even sent from iPhone4 to iPhone 4 with iMessage on and off with the same result. So it's definitely has to do with iMessage. And I have tried everything to try to fix this. So just not going to use it anymore on all our phones and everything is fine

I was having the same problem, can't text or receive any pics, but it only works with iMessage. But now its FIXED. Im using an iPhone 4s with AT&T, ios 5.0.1. Went to 3 different AT&T stores, spoke to tech support on the phone as well, went to the genius bar with no solution but I finally fixed it myself with a friend's help.

At first AT&T kept playing with the settings and made sure I had the right messaging plan, then they blamed Apple saying its the actual phone that doesn't work. Apple says its a carrier issue, basically they are blaming each other. AT&T even changed my sim card and my messaging plan, but still didn't fix the issue.

To fix this problem I restored my phone with no backup, once it reboots dont select a backup just setup as NEW iPHONE. After that you can sync your contacts, calendar, and photos but DO NOT sync your apps. This worked for me and now I can send and receive pics through text. I believe what caused the issue was either an app downloaded that was crashing the phone or your backup had a bad file. Anyways, hope this helps some of you guys!
