However, this is the standard solution that everyone has tried and has a rather low success rate. Most people start to have problems again after between 3 hours and 3 days........

I've got a white 4s in the uk on O2. I couldn't send mms to anyone who wasn't on iMessage. It got to 90% and failed.

I've found a solution. Go settings>general>reset>reset network settings

This has worked on 3x 4s all on O2 two were white and one was black.

I was having similar problems; could not send or receive mms (zero for receiving and 90% then fail for sending) plus couldn't activate my 3G network when not on WiFi, just kept getting an error message like 'cannot activate mobile data network', which is something other users have had a problem with. I was about to go to an O2 shop to see what was going on but as I was flicking through some settings I turned on then back off the airplane mode and straight away I could receive mms texts, a stream of texts with photos that people had tried to send me days previous came in. Plus I was then able to send mms texts (even to people not on imessage) and activate the 3G network. All sorted. It sounds odd maybe by switching on and off airplane mode it somehow reset something, I don't know but everything was sorted literally the second I did it. So maybe try this first before trying the other and somewhat more complicated procedures.

This solution worked for me, and I definitely think that this is probably the problem in most cases. Many thanks.

Now that the Update (5.1) has been released I was hoping that this would solve our problem. However, Apple unfortunately didn't address the issue in the update.

I updated and the problem remains!

Got my Iphone 4S just the other day and I cant send MMS. I have tried everything on this thred apart from the restore as new iphone.

I did try sending a low res photo. Which was successful. But anything taken as standard with the camera will not go. Is it just timing out due to the size of the photo?

Any other solutions found or tried in the past 2 weeks?

My wife had the same problem, not able to send MMS.

We have tried most of the suggestions that were given on here, but with no luck.

We even did the iOS5 update, no luck.

Then success ! To send a MMS all we did was to turn off the 3G in the settings.

Then the phone was able to send MMS.

I don't know if this will work for everyone, I hope it does.

Ps. The option for turning off the 3G was only available after we downloaded the update, not before !

I guess it hasn't worked for everyone but the Update 5.1 solved my picture messaging problem completely. The only thing is that I have to make sure my 3G is on. It won't send/receive pictures over wi-fi. Other than that it works for me. Good luck to everyone else. I know what a frustrating issue it is... I actually had given up and just downloaded an app to send pictures until the update fixed my problem.

The update worked for me as well. I just noticed this past weekend that I am able to send pic messages as long as I have the data on. I use to have to remove APN and I no longer need to do that. It works as it should. Make sure you install the update and hopefully it will work for you all as well.

I don't know if your referring to video messaging or picture messaging, but for either one you need to be connected to a wi-fi connection for them to work.

Trawling the internet for a fix to this problem for 6 months now has still not resolved the issue.

I have an iPhone 4s, on a pay monthly 02 contract. I upgraded to a 4s from a 3gs, which incidentally NEVER had this problem, the 3gs sent MMS pics from day 1 and continued to do so.

Since getting the 4s I have never ever been able to send an MMS or receive one from anyone, regardless of their phone and/or network. I have spoke to 02 many times, depending on who you speak to it's 'Apple's fault' or 'there's a known fault and should be resolved soon' or 'there's not a problem with your MMS settings here'... blah blah blah. Apple on the other hand say it must be a problem with the carrier, or ask me to wait for the next update.... unsurprisingly 5.1.1 hasn't fixed it.

Reading countless forum posts it's obvious that many users on pretty much all carriers have this problem.

I have tried every bit of advice that people have kindly suggested, but to no avail.

This really isn't a cry for help for another solution, it's more a general enquiry (rant) if anyone out there knows if Apple are doing anything at all to resolve this? A simple google search for iphone4s mms should make alarm bells ring for them. My phone cost me a fortune and I can't do what I consider to be a very basic function, yet some of my friends' cheapo-crappo phones have absolutely no problem sending pictures at all. Except to me of course 😉

Hi Folks. Been reading the thread/posts and I too am having a problem with my iphone 4s sending mms (picture messages) I had a 3GS and upgraded to 4s (o2 p&g UK) when I have iMessage ON I can send them to my hubby iPhone 4, my eldest son iPhone 4s my middle son he has iPhone3gs, and my sister iPhone 4 .....BUT I cant send to them with imessge off! I can not send to any other make or model of phone with iMessage either off or on 😟 I really am so dissappointed with this as most of my family live in Wales and I wanted to be able to send my mum pics of her grandsons but I cant and she def can not afford an iPhone !!! Has apple addressed this issue and I have missed it ? I am on the 5.1.1 software PLEASEEEE HELPPPP !!!

I would also advise to use Missing Sync to copy iPhone messages to PC. If you need a desktop utility then go for iPhone sms to Mac Transfer .
