Try going to Settings>notifications, and turn off push notifications for all apps you could otherwise check manually.
One day is not proof of anything but for me this morning is the first time since I got my 4S that I left wifi on overnight while it was charging and battery was at 100%. I did the 5.0.1 update yesterday. For me it was always related to wifi, wifi on overnight - less than 100 in the morning, wifi off - always 100%. Today I'm quite pleased, we'll see if this holds up. My preliminary gut feeling is that overall battery life may be better as well, hope so anyway.
Many folks resolved their iOS 5.0.1. issues by resetting all settings. For those who have not picked up on this other thread:

Copy/pasted from that thread:
After installing the update make sure you reset all setttings. I have done a few updates now and have had much better sucess after settings reset all. Standby drain has been virtually eliminated from 2-4% hr before update. It is located in settings/reset//reset all settings. You loose some wifi and desktop settings, but data, apps, etc remain intact.
One other note. After the phone reboot just go through the default setup ( i.e lang, wifi, Siri, etc) and choose "setting up new phone". Don't restore. That will just reinstall potential corrupt settings. Your apps and data will still be there as before. Really hope this helps some folks. My personal 4S is sitting @58% after 14hrs and moderate use.
I have the same problem. Live in Moscow. Have bought iphone 4s for more than 1000$(we have such high prices for it). And now I can't use it in full force, it's a big disappointment for me. I've swithched off wi-fi, 3G, notices and geolocation and anyway battery runs down very-very quickly... Apple should solve his problem asap - imho, there is no point in developing new technologies and applications if users can not use iphone4s even as only cellphone in normal way...
I tried turning off wifi to see if that would solve my not-fully-charging problem. Nope. Even with wifi turned off my iPhone 4S frequently discharges while in the charger. This is a very frustrating problem. I want to have a fully charged iPhone when I step out the door.
I went back to my Telco for a replacement set. If it drains like >5% within 10 minutes, very likely your battery is faulty. No need to waste your time to troubleshoot, just get a replacement.
Untethered, left over night, my iPhone 4s now drains 1% with 3G, some location services, and notifications on.
Yes, I have the same problem, I have to charge it twice a day, Please if someone can help us?? I already turn off some services.
You could start by reading the thread you posted to for what others have done about unusual battery drain.
Turn off icloud for everthing if u want to back up just do it with itunes. Remove all your mail accounts except 1 that you use the most that way your not trying to connect to multiple servers. Turn brightness down to a zomfortable level. Its not the iphone 4s i have mostly to blame icloud.
You are on a high usage app
Turn it off
