Any luck setting up iCloud on Android?

I've switched over to iCloud and now my Samsung Sidekick won't work with my Mac email. Anyone sorted this out yet?

iTools, you are as old as me then (at least your account is)

I too am unclear as to why some users are having such difficulty but I do know that the imap or smtp servers at me.com are Mobile Me servers (unless Apple made an unannounced change) and therefore may stop working at any time. I also know that on (admittedly only one) Android phone (an HTC Wildfire) the official settings work just fine. Keep an eye on it, maybe it wil work for ever, maybe not.

I can confirm that today ( 13th Aug 2012 ) i have at long last got my LG Optimus L3 working.

I did indeed need to make the password with a CAP letter in it.

Incoming settings used were

p03-imap.mail.me.co.uk

Username full email address

SSL on port 993

Outgoing settings

smtp.mail.me.com

Port 25 using TLS ( SSL DID not work , but using TLS worked a charm! )

Hope this helps!

Many helpful hints here, though with ICS on my Razr Maxx, none went the distance. Here are some additional settings that finally made it happen, working from Csound1's settings:

Incoming server is indeed: imap.mail.me.com

Do not use @mac.com or @me.com after username

Port is indeed 993

Definitely select SSL/TLS and accept all certificates

Now here's the zinger: Authentication should be LOGIN

After figuring this out, I finally (after many hours of searching and testing) got to my outgoing server settings, which are:

smtp.me.com

port 587

NONE for security type

Tic "Require Sign-in"

Authentication is PLAIN

Username again without @me.com or @mac.com

What a royal pain in the arse! Yet now it works like a charm and I'm lovin' the Razr!

Good luck, all!

I have an interesting situation:

1. iCloud account with appleID equal to name@me.com. I do get this account working on my HTC Wildfire

2. second iCloud account (previous a mobileme) with appleID xxx@something.nl which is NOT equal to othername@me.com (iCloud mail adress belonging to appleID xxx@something.nl). I've tried everything but cannot get this me.com adress working on my HTC. I keep getting Authentication failed.

Any suggestions?

My God!

I was sooooo scared to move from my iPhone over to Android just because of mail.

I used the settings from the very first page and on the first attempt, I was able to set up an iCloud account email with all my Mac devices.

....and all my subfolders ported over as well.

Amazing!

Here are the instructions I used:

The server address is not impa.me.com, it is imap.mail.me.com .......

Here's the rest:

If your password does not meet these requirements change it so that it does:

Minimum of 8 characters, including at least 1 uppercase letter, 1 lowercase letter and 1 number, no special characters.

Verify that you are using the correct server credentials:

IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:

  • Server name: imap.mail.me.com
  • SSL Required: Yes
  • Port: 993
  • Username: example@me.com (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
  • Password: Your iCloud password

SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:

  • Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
  • SSL Required: Yes
  • Port: 587
  • SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
  • Username: example@me.com (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
  • Password: Your iCloud password

Note: If you receive errors using SSL, try using TLS instead.

Additional Information

SSL is required for both IMAP and SMTP connection with iCloud. POP is not supported by iCloud.

Very interesting.

Here is what I found...

K-9 is a great alternative email program for Android, no doubt.

However, I used it for 5 minutes and then uninstalled it immediately afterwards.

It did pull in all my mac mail via the iCloud IMAP address. However, unlike Google Mail, it did not pull in all my subfolders. You see, on my desktop Apple Mail I have created subfolders for people I receive mail from, or perhaps everything pertaining to a vacation or software registration. I have about 10 subfolders in all.

K-9 could not port any of them over.

Is that important to you? Perhaps no, if you don't use subfolders.

Also, I set up my mail a little differently than some might on my Android device (simply because I didn't know any better)...

I used the stock email program (the white envelope with red @ seal) rather than the main email program (the white open envelope with the M coming out of it).

I would try using the stock email program. I was able to get all my mail ported over to it, and once I had it set up with an iMap account, whatever I deleted on my iPhone was deleted across all my devices (and vice-versa)

Good luck with your new phone. Loving mine!
