iPhone 4S high pitch noise

Same here, I have 2008 BMW 535xi I get this annoying sound only when I am using iphone 4s( sprint 32GB).

I took it over to Apple, the rep told me it is normal to hear noise when using aux.

hmmmmm my HTC, ipod, Samsung have no noise at all!

I'm having the exact same problem in my BMW 335i. I can't stand the noise. I tried several diff Aux cables and non of them worked, so i went out and bought a high qauilty aux cable and it still did the same thing. I also have a Samsung Infuse, my work phone, and it works just fine with all the cables. I plan on calling apple and complaining.

Don't believe them if they tell you it's normal. My old iphone 3Gs and my wifes iphone 4 do not have this issue.

Whether it's the auto manufacturers Audio Connector Kit Firmware needing an update, as Apple suggested to me, or something with the software on the iPhone is up in the air. I would suggest contacting the BMW dealer in your town and asking them up if there are any firmware updates for your vehicle and let them know about the issue as well.

Two other things if interest that I have read in the forums are:

1. Pocket Dock by SendStation sold on Amazon is an alternative. It is an adapter that plugs into the charging port and has a headphone jack. This has worked for others on the forums who didn't mind spending some more cash.

2. The problem does not seem to effect Honda's. After I read a post on these forums from someone saying they had no problems with thier Honda, I tried my 4S in my wifes 07 Honda Civic and it worked perfectly.

I switched to using this FM transmitter/dock and have no problems w/noise via FM through the dock connector. Another nugget narrowing the issue to the headphone jack.

Same here in a Hyundai minivan using a Monster cassette input with my new iPhone 4S. Happens with all audio output through the headphone jack in the car. Not a problem when using earbuds. I've never had this issue with the following using EXACTLY the same setup: iPhone, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch (4th G), iPod Nano (1st and 3rd G), iPod shuffle (3rd G). This is obviously a iPhone 4S issue.

I wouldn't dismiss Carl's theory, though. It's possible that the 4S is more sensitive to an already existing grounding issue.

Same problem for me: BMW 3 series with a high-quality audio cable and an iPhone 4, no problems. Upgraded to the iPhone 4s last night, and the hiss is unbearable. Tried a new audio cable, Airplane Mode and turned off WiFi and Bluetooth. Even purchased two snap-on RF choke filters from Radio Shack for the audio cable, but no luck. Has anyone noticed the hiss goes away 10 seconds after the audio is paused or stopped?

In addition to the headphone jack noise, I also get a quieter but similar noise while making a phone call. Anyone else getting this as well?

I increased my phone volume (not ringer but headphone) all the way to 100% and turned down my radio instead and the noise did go away. This was suggested in one of the earlier post and it does work, but I too am afraid of blasting my headphone volume to elimate the annoying sound.

Same here. I own a 2007 BMW 335i and use an 1/8pin monster cable with an iPhone 4gs. Worked perfectly with all other generations with car on or off. Can't be ios5 alone either since our other 4g has already been upgraded and works fine. Headphones appear to work fine. I wonder do they make a 1/8 pin cable that has the same pin design as the microphone enabled headphone buds ? Or we should see if an older pair of earbuds without the microphone still produce the noise. This really stinks. I hope there is a fix soon.....

The problem went away for me on my Pioneer stereo once I turned the volume on the iPhone all the way up as someone suggested on one of these threads. The sound went away completely.

I can confirm that the Pocket Dock by send station will resolve this issue at a price similar to a new cord. It worked for me.

The noise was not there when I initially got the phone. I think an update may have caused it.

BMW 328i 2009

I was one of the original posters here and at the time, like most of you, had a Mini Cooper or BMW. My Mini was a base Cooper, 2009 that I just used a monster cable into the Aux jack.

I just took delivery today of my new 2012 Cooper base, and it came with the latest BMW iPhone cord which plugs into the jack on the bottom of the phone (the charging jack) with a USB and Aux cable which go into the car. I was somewhat dismayed since I was expecting the whine to continue, but to my amazement ... NOTHING! No whine, just crystal clear sound.

So, I don't know how much that might run for all of you that have both the USB and Mini jack that you're trying to use, since mine was jsut sitting in the front seat of the car, but it might be worth looking into if you're desperate for a solution. Good luck everyone!

Same Here, I called apple they didn't know what to do so i called the dealership and they stated that I needed a special cord. The cord plugs into the bottom of the iPhone and plugs into both the USB and AUX ports in the car. Now my iPhone works perfectly, no noise at all. The cord cost me $70 before tax, which is quite a lot for a cord.

Sounds like the Send Station Pocket Dock is the best option right now until the issue "may" be resolved in a IOS5 update down the road.

Either way, I've always used the headphone jack with a 3.5 cable to the Aux jack on my BMW for years now, but it appears you actually could get better audio quality from using an adapter via the sync jack instead. Since I have the premium sound system package in my car and use my iphone a bunch in car for listening to my higher quality mp3s, this will easily be worth the investment of $26 if it kills two birds with one stone. The high pitched noise issue and improves sound performance.

I'm going to order it and fingers crossed it fixes the problem. Appears it worked for Mini Coopers, hope it fixes it for BMWs. Since Mini is part of BMW, this may be why soo many are having this issue with these specific cars, even though I saw someone reporting same issue in an Infiniti.

I did try to increase the volume to 100% on iPhone and that didn't fix the problem.

I picked this up at Radio Shack today and it works. So clearly it's a headphone jack issue as the dock connector things work. I'm peeved, however, that I have to buy a $30 accessory to make the phone do what it's supposed to do for petes sake!
