Do you guys have the back plastic on?

  • ambernote Level 1 Level 1

I have the same problem...  32 g white as well.

is it a problem with white models??

and no, of course no plastic on the back, and I removed the cover as well.

Mine has troubles focusing and ends up taking pictures really out of focus

appleyard - I messaged you in my other post - is your model white as well?

update, my problem was the hole on the case (iphone 4) was not big enough.  even tho it looks big enought the flash reflects off the rim of the hole.

Hmmm ... apparently the same with my wife's. It's a white 4S, and although the cutout looks big enough this must be the problem. If I take the case off it works great.

Oh, well - the case is only 20 bucks - I'll take a razor knife to it.

Yes, my pics look very hazy/foggy. I did put a new case on it but the hole for the lens looks quite large. I'm going to take it off for a bit and see if it changes things. I'm also using a white 32 gb 4 s model.

Hope that is the only problem, but my camera does lock up at times after using for a few minutes.

    Thanks for posting,

Tha Hazy/Foggy-ness is definitely the case.  I went out the last two nights and took pics with the fash and had the same problem.  Playing around with it today I discovered the case issue.  I'm just using a impactband case.  Kinda like a bumper on steroids.  Great accessory but does interfere with the flash.  I have a white 4s

The case on the wife's phone is made of white plastic covered with a blue rubbery material - that left a thin band of white plastic where the cutout was made for the camera and flash. Amazingly, that was enough to interfere with flash operation! So I took a black marker and blacked out the thin white margin around the cutout and voila! it's fixed.

I might also mention that if your flash pictures look a little pale, tap on the Edit button at the top right of the picture and then tap the magic wand icon at the bottom. It fixes most pictures instantly.

Thanks Mike, I followed your lead and went to the Apple store and will post what I posted on my other thread about this. It basically confirms everything you said, but people need to take care to buy the proper case to avoid this frustration. I think Verizon and Att should definateky make sure to tell folks 4 cases will not necessarily work on the 4S camera. Sorry for the length but wanted to be thorough for other newbies like me :0)

    Good Afternoon All,

Yesterday I went to the Apple store/genius bar. First of all I had the clear protectant film on the front and back of my phone under a two layer incipio case. The rep that helped me stated there should be no film on the back of the phone as it causes reflection from the flash causing haze with pics ESP at night/darker environments. I admit I was skeptical and he also said that my case while nice did not have a large enough opening for the camera lens/flash even though it was made for iPhone 4 the changes made to the new camera calls for a sizable difference in the opening to allow for the flash to work properly.

I purchased my case at Verizon and they told me no such thing, so I was a bit skeptical but I picked a case with a larger opening approx a 1/2 centimeter larger than my current one and removed the film from the back of my phone then I asked the rep if he would go into the back area of the store, turn the lights off and take a few pics to be sure that was the problem and he did!  Viola! Problem solved. I'm really surprised that was it but last night I took a bunch of pics in low level light and they turned out great, no further issues. The brand of the new case was "uncommon" most of the cases for 4s in the apple store had a much larger opening and the inner part of the opening was also blackened. There were a few other brands too "speck" was one but if you are buying from a website just make sure you get one with an opening of about 1/2" H x 3/4" W to. Accommodate changes made to the camera.

Hope this helps others.  Have a great day :0)

Hi, I bought an iLuv aurora case (large cmera hole) for £20 and I'm still having the same problem. I am exchanging for a black 4s to see if it make a difference.  I have spent a small fortune on case in the past couple of weeks!

I still this the white 4s is part of the problem.
