Os 9.2.2 TCP/IP Setting, Can't release 169. IP

I have searched the forums briefly(about 30 mins) and it seems a daunting task! There is lot if info here, please excuse me if this has been answered before, feel free to direct me to the post.
I just purchased a Lombard model PowerBook, I installed 9.2.2 on it. I am trying to hook it up to my network and it will not grab an IP. I have dumped the prefs file and restarted, and nothing it goes back to the 169.IP. I am wondering if maybe the ethernet port is bad?
Anyway, just to be clear, I have inet service through cable, TCP/IP settings:
connect via: Ethernet
configure: Using DHCP Server
Everything should be provided automatically.
Thanks for any insight.

Hey You All I Think I We got it,

I Went back & put everything in manually....

Now The only way I was able to do that was I stopped & I Wrote Down All of the addresses while i was connected.

I'd done that before But I hadn't went to the ASP & found what the "name server address" was?

This doesnt show up on your TC/IP panel even when you are connected cause that area is left blank?

Why dont they just give us this info upfront?(the name server address) I dont Know?

I guess it makes it easier on them to tell us......it's a

'MAC"!!!

I hope I've helped?

And By the way I've Restarted it about 20 times & shut down about 10 & now?.?.?.?......

I'm leaving this message Via tha problem ?

Thanks, I'm Truly Appreciative Of You alls Help!

GOD Bless!

Uh… After you've Restarted it about 20 times & shut down about 10 does it work, or what please?

DNS Addressesand Search Domains can sometimes be vital, sometimes simply helpful and sometimes wholly irrelevant… sometimes your ISP needs you to use one or both, sometimes not… sometimes your ISP does not need one, or both, but your own network needs one, or both, to find a router…

Basically, that's too complicated for anyone to cope with until there's a known problem which should mean if your ISP needs one, they'll tell you when they give you the details to set up your account and if not, suck it and see.

Yes Robbie It Worked, In Fact I Just Woke up this morning & Logged on straightaway.

How I solved my problem was one of the times I was connected I went to the ASP and wrote down the name server address, something I never new was required because it doesnt show up on the TC/IP Panel while connected.

I entered that along with the ip address, subnetmask & router address manually.

I hope I've saved someone the same headache I've experienced!!!

Thanks For the help.
