My iPhone 4s phone call failed more than 50% times, some times people can't hear my voice, is there anybody else has same problem?

iPhone 4s (5.01) bought directly from Apple.

Can't keep a phone call for more than 5 minutes or so.

it says "call failed" if you look at the network icon it has simply lost connection and is searching for the carrier.

Already reseted to factory defaults, restored a copuple times...

This is such a SHAME...

Can't they just make a phone that makes calls?

I just can't believe that I paid 699 euros for something that simply can't put a call for longer than 5 minutes. I see myself forced to call everyone after that.

Is Apple paying me back for this?

Changed my micro SIM card for a new one just in case... (although the former one perfectly worked inside my older iPhone 4)

Still the same problem

Truth be told is not exactly 5 minutes y might happen at 9 like my last call.

It's 10 out of 10 failure rate with 10 minutes long calls or so. You just have to wait. At home with 3 signal bars... and it suddently drops the call saying call failed and disconnects from the carrier.

I'll be posting a video this weekend...

So if your iPhone is like mine and you see “Call Ended” and then “Call Failed” immediately after trying to dial out from your iPhone, even though there’s a good signal (i.e. you can see signal bars, so you are connected to your carrier). Then relax, because there probably is no problem with the phone — you PROBABLY just need to do these 2 steps:

1) Go to Settings > General > Date and Time. Switch off “Set Automatically” and manually select your hometown (the default is Cupertino). If you dont change it, you will not be able to make outgoing calls. But the wierd part is, you will still be able to receive incoming calls. Once done, manually set the date and time, and restart your iPhone. If you want, you can reset the 2 settings to “Set Automatically” again.

2) Next, go to Settings > Phone > Show My Caller ID > Switch this to “ON”. Usually with these steps, things should be okay already. If not, you have to turn off “Call Forwarding” and “Call Waiting” as well.

Samilar problem: some times outgoing call fails, also noticed video recording's volume is unusually low. This can be solved by just going to: settings -> general -> siri and then just exit settings.

There must be a software bug in siri's settings. Be careful with going to siri settings, because by doing that it will trigger the problem again.

I'll try and set it all up clearly enough so we can all reach a conclusion. I will update this with your testing results. Please be accurate in you statements and take time to read what others said so you can contribute in a better way.

PROBLEM

  1. Device: Iphone 4s (5.01)
  2. The device suddenly ends the call showing a "call failed" message
  3. No sound, signal loss, or tone is heard before or after the cut. It just halts all comunications
  4. The connection to the cellular network resets itself showing the search icon and then connecting again.

FACTS

  1. Not a simcard issue. I've replaced mine and my wife's and still the call failed bug persists. Most users reported the same.
  2. Not a Siri related issue. My phone is a Spanish one and has no Siri integration yet.
  3. Not a network specific issue. Many users in this forums from different networks are claiming to have the same issue.
  4. Not a network intensity or quality issue. My office is really close to a cellular tower. I constantly have 5 bars on 3G and still the cuts persist.

CLUES (need futher testing)

  1. Failure rate As stated by many users and myself on two different (brand new) devices the failure rate is between 75% to 100% on 9+ minutes calls.
  2. Environment
    1. 3G network switching. Issues on my devices always happened on 3G areas
    2. Wifi network. Issues on my devices have happened on places where I also connect trough wifi like home, office, etc...

I'd really appreciate some apple support staff taking care of this (a 20K+ replies claim).

Apple Inc. should be ashamed of itself by robbing us of our money and not being able to meet our BASIC requirements!

The biggest heist in corporate history is evident from the amount our beloved CEO Mr. Tim Cook has received in 2011, close to $357 million (this money came to Apple from us), precisely for the reasons stated below:

1) No audio while making outgoing calls

2) Speaker phone being activated after making a call (more occasional when using headsets).

3) Random signal drops, prompting the message 'Call Failed'. Randomly 'Searching for network'.

4) "No Sim Card Installed" or "INVALID SIM" error

5) SMS Message not being sent, with the beautiful red exclamation mark being displayed after a short while along with the text "Message not delivered".

6) Battery drainage issues despite being promised better battery life, as is evident from the iPhone page on Apple's website and the keynote delivered by none other than Mr. Tim Cook.

Its been a few months since the iPhone 4S' launch and its a matter of utter shame for Apple not to admit the above issues (with the exception of point 6).

I openly challenge any employee, director, shareholder, engineer, executive or third party contractor of Apple Inc. on any forum to prove that I am wrong on the points listed above.

Shame on you, Shame on you, Shame on you for robbing peoples money!!!!!!!!!

Alright. Here's an Icer. I got my iPhone 4S off Optus (Australia) and everything was perfectly fine. I moved here to Dhaka, Bangladesh for about 3 months, and the pathetic part is, the carrier I most prefer while Im here is having problems regarding the "call failed" thing. But the other carriers, with the regular SIMs I cut out to make a Micro SIM are working fine. This is Bangladesh, so you can't expect anything even close to 3G, but there is WiFi to some extent. Any ideas?

Hi Haris

Thank you for your contribution. I must say anyway that what you posted is, at it's best, a workaround. Anything implying switcing off functions to help others work or artificially modifying the phones configuration is definitely not a solution. There is a huge difference between both, a real solution and a workaround just to keep going...

I also will like to emphasize that the solution you posted is not related (or fixes) the problem most people are discussing in this post.

Phone calls suddenly dropping in the middle of a conversation in great reception areas with the "call failed" message on it.

I've bought a third phone and I happens just the same. Not a network issue (older iPhone 4 works flawlessly at same conditions) not a sim card issue (3 different phones new sim cards for 2 of them) not a signal quality/intensity issue (4+ bars when cuts happen).

I will now update my testing on this bug. There are a few changes as for the wifi connectivity

  1. Device: Iphone 4s (5.01)

  2. Not a Siri related issue. My phones (3 iphone 4s) are Spanish ones and have no Siri integration yet.
  3. Not a network specific issue. Many users in this forums from different networks in different countries are claiming to have the same issue.
  4. Not a network intensity or quality issue. My office is really close to a cellular tower. I constantly have 5 bars on 3G and still the cuts persist.
  5. Not related to Wifi connectivity. After testing two of the units with wifi network switched on the problem persists.

I would like to point out that this is an extremely annoying bug since it drops calls time and again. We feel absolutely abandoned by apple staff how has no official statement about this issue.

Hi all,

Guess all you guys are pretty tired of more messages saying, "I´ve also have the same problem".

But guess what: Here is another one!

  1. Ongoing Call
  2. Called Failed
  3. Notification Center "Call Failure"
  4. Phones unstable for 5 second
  5. No Service
  6. Searching
  7. And AT LAST I can call my custumer back to tell how sorry I am about my crappy iPhone!

The "only reason" for posting this, is just to let Apple know ONE MORE have the same exact problem!

My Story (in short)

Location: Norway, good 3G receiption, operator Telenor.

  1. 3 different MicroSIMs tested, last one verified by my operator apple team!
  2. 2 iPhone4S (16GB) tested, same happens with "new" replace unit!
  3. All, and I mean ALL of google forums tips/tricks/turn this and that on and off
  4. Latest release A06 (iOS5.0.1)
  5. My Operator is running debug from their end, just to eliminate.

What´s next, a freakin Windows Phone???

Sorry for not bringing a solution, Im just a number in the row!

IPHONE 4s call failed??!!!
