Push email does not work (iCloud)

Since the update to icloud the push email does not work anymore. Im only talking about the me.com adress no Yahoo oder other Emails. I didnt changed the Mail settings and pushing mails worked fine before the update to icloud.

Example:

When i switched on the phone in the morning the mails i received during the night immediately got pushed to the iphone. That doesnt work anymore. It only receives the mails when i switch to the mail app.

Any suggestions anyone?!? 😟

Im using newest iOS 5 with an iPhone 4S and migrated my old me.com account to iCloud.

This worked for me, with and without Mail in the Background on my 4S, although, with Mail in Background it was 12-15 Seconds vs. 1 Minute.... Thanks in any case....

Another Variable is that, while my laptop is away in repair, I am using iCloud on PB G4 10.4.11, 2GB RAM, 1.67Ghz; and it's CRAWLING, crazy slow!!! No Wonder Apple doesn't Support it on that OS& Hardware!!!

I still wonder Who Is At Fault Here?

The Cell Carrier?

The iCloud?

The iOS?

A Corruption on my 4S, 64 GB, latest iOS?

I am in the middle of MAJOR US City, right in front of my Airport Extreme, on WiFi, latest Software on that Airport.... Speeds = 11-19 MB Download on Speedtest, net App

This Push Issue could be a Problem with All Of The Above....

With the kind of iAGONY I've been going through with Apple Care lately, that is UNRELATED to this, I am pretty sure! So... I don't think it's possible to answer the above Qs, because this could be Intermittent Issue effecting various users at various times!!!

My Mac is away at Apple Repair right now, so I won't be trying any more fixes out of fear of losing my Email on iCloud.

The iCloud Status Update could be wrong when it says OK, because it might simply mean that not enough complaints were received to declare a Problem! Such is the policy with most Providers, including Cable TV Providers, who sometimes do Maintenance during the night, without telling the customers, on assumption that everyone's asleep....

But then Blackberries, which were supposed to shine with PUSH have had their own Outages, so I am not going to expect Perfection from Apple either....

Still this is no fun, particularly when there are Deadlines involved!!!

I can't do the Re-Install of OS now, since my laptop is still at Apple = EPIC NIGHTMARE, and it's BRAND NEW MB Pro 17'....

So I am stuck with my iPhone 4S, 64GB, "camping" in my own office!!! This reply is from OLD Powerbook G4, NO FUN!!!

Because I am more dependent on my iPhone than EVER, I've noticed this 1.5hrs Delay in getting email from Apple, to my mac.com address!!! Now I can only wonder how long I've had this Push on iPhone Problem, because most of the time I've been on my MB Pro Mail....

I've done other Erase and Installs of my iPhone, to weed out other Problems! In case of Smartlists Syncing Incorrectly, Apple FINALLY admitted that it's a Problems with iTunes! Hopefully its Fix will be part of the Next iTunes Update!!! So, Erase and Installs of the iPhone is probably not going to help with this Push Issue, assuming that it's Not Intermittent. See my my Previous Post Today for more on that....

I also am having another Issue which will likely won't be fixed during my current laptop repair!!! Apple already admitted that Issue.... Not a Fun Time for me as a LOYAL APPLE USER!!!!

Right now this Push Thing is working, and I hope it stays like that for a while, but again, as I've said in my Previous Post today, 2/15/12, this Push Thing would be hard to diagnose, because there are too many variables there!!!

As usually, I wonder if Apple is reading these Discussions! But, even if they do, they often don't admit the problem, and when the Next Update comes, they vaguely say their usual Non Admission of what has been fixed:

"And Other Fixes...."

And Apple Care doesn't know more than that, or they just won't say, because they are Not Allowed to, NDA...

But then it's probably a lot worse on other Platforms like Windows, Android, etc...., where there usually is No Phone Support at all, or it's Crazy Expensive for most people!

Let's remember, iCloud is Way Too Young for Apple, so this is part of Growing Pains!!! My laptop is another Headache, where Thunderbolt is starring in the role of Way Too Young, I am guessing for now, until I eventually receive my laptop back from Apple!!!!!!!!!! Till then I am trying my best to distract myself from a HORRIFIC FRUSTRATION with all this!!!!

Best of luck to all reading this!

Yes, I'll say it again - I am very FRUSTRATED with my laptop repair, but that fix:

Feb 15, 2012 6:16 PM (in response to jmc028)

worked for me, and these latest posts are helping me to see if my Push Email on iCloud is working now, and it is!!!

On days like these, I am reminded yet again that it's a great idea to have Apple Care, with it's Phone Support! I try my best to document each Case:

Time Stamp

Who I spoke to

Case Numbers

Screenshots, Links etc

In one case I remembered about Video Capture in QuickTime, so now, when my laptop comes back, with its Erase and ReInstalled OS, I'll be ready to make a Movie of my Bug, so that it'll be harder for anyone to dispute the symptoms! Luckily, iOS allows Screenshots too....

So keep Documenting all your issues, and request confirmation Replies from Apple Care, and Escalation to Senior Advisors, and then to Apple's Engineers! The more Paper Trail the Stronger our Cases are, making it harder for us to be dismissed!!!

Apple is growing crazy fast, and they are PUSHING the Envelope with iCloud and all else, so it's GROWING PAINS for all of us!!!! But we must do our part and Document our Cases, our Attempted Fixes etc, so when that Info is eventually in front of the Highest Level of Help, the Engineers, whom we never get to speak to..., they have everything Consolidated in our Mail Conversations, Same Subject Line that includes the Case ## -- that is how I've been doing it!!!

Of course I'd rather not have any of those problems... And don't get me started on the topic of - it's not Apple's but a 3rd Party Software that is at fault.... In my laptop situation it's also a Hardware that is in question.... But, with this PUSH Issue, it should be MOSTLY APPLE SOLUTION, cause it's their Hardware and Software..., unless, as I've proposed earlier today in my post - it's a problem with Carriers and Coverage, which doesn't apply in my situation, cause my iPhone 4S is 3 Feet away from Apple's own Brand New Airport Extreme!!!!! BTW, that's why I bought it and all else BRAND NEW, THE LATEST, TOP OF THE LINE EVERYTHING, Software and Hardware from Apple, so that there would be LEAST BLAMING, and look what happened!!! I am SCREWED with my MAYBE LEMON LAPTOP!!!! But when it comes back from this Repair, after 11 - 14 Days, this Laptop might win a Prize for being The Most Tested Apple Laptop, ha ha ha!!!!

Best Wishes to ALL of you!!!!

Everyone,

Check out this link to my post in another similar thread on January 23rd, 2012.

Per this info I still am getting push notification on my may, ipad2 and iPhone on all 3 accounts. I am not sure why this fixed it, but it is still working today. No formats or reload or restores to any devices required, just set up the smtp other servers settings for any accounts you have.

On another note, I was recently at the apple store and spoke to the great employees at the genius bar. I spoke to 3 different guys, and all of them stated they are having the same push issues on their devices. They said apple knows about it, but it is pretty hush, hush - as are most things apple. It is a real problem, it is being looked into, and a fix is expected, but no one could say when.

I hope this helps, but keep posting till we all get a fix!

Good Luck All!

We already figured out that it has nothing to do with the user side:

- Wifi or 3G?

- Carrier?

- Mail opened, in foreground or in background?

- how many iOS devices?

- migrated MobileMe-Account or new iCloud-Account?

- Country of residence?

Nothing of the above is a reason why push should not work. Restarting the iPhone or Mac or restoring OS does not help.

All that counts are the Apple servers. For no apparent reason push stops for some users and for no apparent reason it works again. There is nothing the user can do. I think that only a small number of technicians know about the real problem and people from Apple support has no clue about that.

I am discovering that I also am having push issues, both with email and ICal. I joined this community to see if anyone had an answer. It is random in my situation but I have learned that I cannot rely on my 4S. My emails push one day and not the next. I lost $35 yesterday because 2 critical emails a minute apart did not push for at least 8 hours. So far they seem to push to my IPAD more than to my IPhone. This seems to have developed in the past month for me (or events caused me to become aware) as some ICal alerts did not get pushed through from IClould either and I missed a critical conference call.

I find for my calendar on the 4S, if I open it it will sometimes have to go through a sync before the event appears, at other times the event is there. My IPad, my 3G and 4S sitting on my desk, I will get the push for the IPad and the 3G but not the 4S and then other days they all work. Discouraging and frustrating to lose the reliability. Apple needs to put a warning on its communication products. "Relying on this IPhone or IPad may be dangerous to your financial health - please check the box that your are in agreement".
