Push email does not work (iCloud)

Since the update to icloud the push email does not work anymore. Im only talking about the me.com adress no Yahoo oder other Emails. I didnt changed the Mail settings and pushing mails worked fine before the update to icloud.

Example:

When i switched on the phone in the morning the mails i received during the night immediately got pushed to the iphone. That doesnt work anymore. It only receives the mails when i switch to the mail app.

Any suggestions anyone?!? 😟

Im using newest iOS 5 with an iPhone 4S and migrated my old me.com account to iCloud.

I had a LOT of problems for about 5 days and didn't receive ANY of my mail and obviously push wasn't working either. I tried everything and then all of a sudden it just started to work again. Im definiltey not a fan of the iCloud set-up as of right now. It's way too hit n miss and Apple is usually amazing at taking care of these issues. Im confident that they will. I hope they can get this system worked out SOON so we can not worry about receiving mail. It's not fun when you're waiting for a very important email or bill that has to be paid asap. Anyways, That's all I've got for now..

Not talking about something, good or bad, is typical of Apple. They do not talk about a product until they are ready. Same with problems that they are working on. I don't know how many threads I have watched over the years that got a lot of traffic and lots of people complaining about Apple not talking about something...then it gets fixed. It is obvious that Apple knows about it and is working on it from posts here, and yea, it may be easy for me to say because I am not having the same problems some of you are, but be patient, they will get it taken care of, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Here's a mini-update for you guys... I tried the workaround that has been posted here a few times:

  • go to Settings --> iCloud and turn off Mail
  • go to Settings --> Mail, Contact,Calendars --> Add Account... --> Other
  • Create a new Account with these Settings : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864?viewlocale=en_US
  • restart Mail or restart your iOS device
  • now Push-Mail should work

This worked for a few days, and I was happy.

But then...

I got an email from the Apple tech that I've been working with on this issue, and he told me that they are still testing my account. Interestingly, I also received a couple of random test emails from Apple, and it was then that my email stopped pushing again.

Coincidence?

Has anyone had continued success with the above workaround, or does it eventually stop pushing again?

In any event, I went back to the only solution that has worked for me. Turned off iCloud Push slider, and set my phone to Fetch every 15 minutes. I don't get the emails the very moment they come in, but I do get them at least every 15 minutes, which works until they (hopefully) resolve this issue.

I also followed up with an email to my tech to let him know the Push stopped again, and let him know how my phone is now set up. I'll keep you posted if I hear anything new.

Update:

I have been passed off to another tech in the Mobile Me support department. This new tech passed me off to the iOS department.

I then spent 2 hours on the phone with a Senior Advisor in iOS support, and he said there is nothing they can do to resolve this email push problem. It was his opinion that the Mobile Me support department is the highest level of service for this problem, and he didn't understand why I was sent over to iOS support.

I'm really bummed out that Mobile Me support would just pass me along after 4 months of this problem.

I'm just really bummed out, period.

Is anyone's phone pushing email properly? I've had mine on fetch and that's the only way I get the emails. I will set it to push to see if it's working, but would like to know if everyone's back on track with receiving emails, or not. Thanks.

I have the original settings, the ones that automatically set me up on iCloud. I have tried most work arounds listed here, and although push 'seems' to have been working better over the last week or so, I still don't think it's 100% there. I did notice that I can't set the manual 'settings' in any part of the SMTP server fields, as they are greyed out with the word 'optional' in the USERNAME and PASSWORD fields. So I'm not sure whether this is right as this link says otherwise:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US&login=email

Anyone else notice this or can they change their settings or even turn off the server at all?

I've had this problem too for 3-4 months!

Stuart,

I have also reverted my settings back to the original settings generated by iCloud. I want to see if the Push will work.

For the outgoing SMTP server, mine are greyed out as well.

I cannot find incoming anywhere.

Under "Other SMTP Servers" smtp.mail.me.com was off on my phone. I have just turned it "on" to see if that changes anything for me.

Thanks
