Half the time when i call someone they cannot hear me, i checked the mute button turning it off and on, no difference, also reset the phone etc.Not sure if carrier or phone fault. Seems to only happen with out going calls, happens to home and mobile phones.

I had the same issue with my new 64 GB iphone 4s (white) and AT&T service.

If I use the headset the phone works fine, but if I use the phone's built in microphone it does not work.
I could hear the other people talking but they could not hear me talking. This happened with both, calls from other cells as well as calls from landlines.

I bought the phone from an AT&T store, and when I tried to exchange the phone, they told me to take the phone to an Apple Store, which I think is ridiculous. I bougth the phone from AT&T and expect them to exchange it in the store. I returned the phone back to AT&T (no exchange) and will wait to see what Apple will do about the issue before I buy another one.

OMGeeee! I have to apologize. I thought of something after I replied earlier. I realize my husband (who never ever takes the plastic off any electronics) might have left it on...went to look at my iPhone and sure enough, he left it on therefore causing the flash to reflect back to the lens causing a whitewash look. duh! Hope your problem is as simple as mine! Good luck!

I have the same issue. I can hear who is calling me but they can't hear me. It happened at least 20-25 times since Friday when I got my phone. I know for sure it is not the reception issue. I have a full bars, and the call going through but person on the other line can't hear me. Will be going to Apple store tonight at 06:30 PM. Will let you guys know what is the verdict.

Hi,

I've just purchased the new iPhone 4S 64gb, but have a problem when using the headphones and speaking to someone on the phone.

I have used two different apple headphones, one which came the iPhone 4S and one from my old iPhone 4.

When using the headphones in a call, after 5 mins the line crackles and you cannot hear anything. I have to remove the headphones and use the phone by putting it next to my ear and then it is fine. I have also put the headphones back in to the phone whilst on the call but still experience the same problem.

Me too, same problem, iPhone 4S 16GB. Mic not working periodically/inconsistently. This happens when using the phone normally (to ear), while on speakerphone, using the earbuds, and even using bluetooth. It's definitely an internal problem with the phone. Spoke to Apple, they arranged an appointment at my local store for Friday, but they may not have any 4S's there. I may be out of luck on a quick repair. Stinks.

In regards to the photo, have you tried using the flash in different conditions?

From what I can see, it looks like the camera has bumped up the ISO quite drastically to try and light up the scene... as a result, you are getting a lot of noise in the picture. The yellow tint could just be the white balance not working so well in low light condition...

I think this issue maybe related to SIRI?

To test this can anyone experiancing this issue, have Siri turned on, scroll to where u search your iphone and listen to how loud it is typing, lock your phone and listen to how loud it is.

Ok now use SIRI just hold the button so siri comes up, close siri, go back to the search and type, is it really loud now? also click your lock button is it louder?

This occurs on mine but not my mates 4s

Same settings!

Like you already know I was having this issue with mic for incoming and outgoing phone calls. Last night I went to Apple store appointment and got a new phone. The Apple rep was asking me if I restored my phone from the backup or start as a new phone. I actually restored my phone from the back up previously. Now to rule out the hardware and software I start my phone as a NEW IPHONE at the store. When I got home I connected to iTunes and synced my contacts and apps. All phone calls I made after the restore went fine without issues.

To save you guys trip to Apple store you can do hard reset. Settings-->General-->Reset--->Reset All Settings. It will bring your phone to initial state like you got it from the box. After that just follow the instructions to select you language and the back up option. On the third screen select: Start As A New iPhone, and connect to iTunes to sync. Let me know if it works.

Piercen, I'm experiencing the same problem with my Black iPhone 4S 16Gb.

When I make a call I can see that the call has connected by the call timer. There is no audible ring through my speaker and I can't hear the person I've called speaking. When I tap the Speaker Phone, I can hear the person, tap it again and the phone returns to normal audio through the speaker. The next time I dial the same number no problem, normal audio.

I spoke with AppleCare and backed-up the phone through iTunes and returned the phone to Factory Settings and installed from back-up. Still no joy, same problem. Then I thought I'd Reset the Network (Orange UK), still the same problem.

I phoned AppleCare and they initially asked me to visit an Apple Shop, which is a 1 hour car journey from home and not at all convenient, so I asked for an Express Exchange and will receive a replacement iPhone 4S in 2-3 working days. Hopefully the new handset will be problem free!

My iPhone does that too. I have the Black 32 GB Sprint version, so it's all internal. My mic doesn't work for both incoming or outgoing calls, and also doesn't work for Siri sometimes. I don't know what is causing it because I don't do anything different (that I've noticed) from the times it work to the times it doesn't work. I press the button to ask Siri something and it works fine, then 10 mins later I try to do the same thing and it doesn't work.
