I can't express how unhappy I've been with my 4S. I would actually prefer my 4, but I gave it to a family member.

I've returned it for a new phone twice and both times the same problem... Nobody can hear me when I have a headset plugged in, and half the time I have to re dial the person I just called because I only hear myself on the other end. Not to mention it sometimes gets stuck in speakerphone mode.

Ugh.

Im certain that the microphone issue on the 4s is known to apple, though the guy at the apple store wouldnt say anything when i queried if this was a known hardware issue. He took my black 32g att phone to the back to "try to duplicate" the problem and returned in 45 seconds with a new phone. I watched (while waiting for the Genius Bar) as other customers had 4s issues and they ran diagnostics and other tests yadda yadda but I never saw them offer a trade for a new phone. I found it telling that when my symptom, the microphone cutting out occasionally, it was off to the back to fetch a new one.

For the record, the phone worked fine 99% of the time execpt for a brief mic cut out at random times while on the phone. I would say it happened once in every 15 calls.

I'm having same problem with 32gb 4S black w/ AT&T!!! One out of every six calls the person I call cannot hear me at all or they say that it sounds like they are on speaker phone and can barely hear me. What is going on with the 4S? This is a big problem w/ this phone I'm using. Never had any problems like this w/ other iPhones but this is a VERY annoying and bothersome problem! ESP for the price

Same problems here. Went to Apple Store, (ofcourse the phone was working at this time) Genius (?) tech tells me there's nothing wrong, acted like he wasn't familiar with the issue at all.

Had to use my phone to call my brother to tell him our Father died, you guessed it - he couldn't here me. I'm EXTREMELY disappointed with Apple's reaction to this problem.

Same problem with iPhone 4S after one week (Netherlands). The other party doesn't here me except when I switch to the Speaker.

Given the number of complaints here and elswhere concerning the very same problem, and given that Apple ignores it completely, I think it is time to broadcast this to the press. Given Apple's responses to the antenna proiblem and the battery problem once it appeared in the press I assume this will help. I, for myself, have decided that I will advice anybody strongly against buying iPhone, 'the phone that works one-way'!!!!

Same mic issue here.

I went to the apple store today and they were nice enough to give me a replacement. However, the genius told me that their system of sending a signal(?) to my replacement iphone 4s to unlock it was down today. I had to wait until later in the morning to restore it at home by myself and activate it. He said if you have any problem I could call him. I asked him very clearly whether this replacement is officially unlocked so that I dont have to worry about upgrading in the future or using it outside of US. He promised. So I took off.

Now I successfully activate the replacement iphone 4s, and it seems to work fine when making phone calls. However, I just realize that the model of this phone is MC922LL!!!, which is the AT&T model. Is that mean that this is not an unlocked one and it is going to be locked in the future? I am so worried because I bought the phone for my friend in China. I dont want to bring her a locked one!!!

Can somebody please help me!?

Thank you so much!
