Logitech G5 double-click-issues

Hi

I just bought a Logitech G5 for use with my PowerMac G5. Since name matched, I thought this device is gonna work smooth with Mac OS X, although the box doesn't mention Mac OS X as a supported operating system (only Windows, in fact).

The mouse works as expected and I can use every button - so far so good. Unfortunately, I noticed some odd behaviour that its ancestor, a Logitech Cordless MouseMan Optical, didn't have.

When I double-click an Application or a File, the application is started, but it doesn't appear in the foreground! This is very odd and slows down productivity.

The same happens when launching an Application sitting in the dock (using just one click).

Is this a known problem? Does anyone have a solution for this odd behaviour?

Thanks for any help!
Kind regards
Mario

Are you using the Logitech mouse drivers? I think they call it the Logitech Control center.

The Logitech G5 is not listed as supporting the Mac. As a results, the only control surfaces on the mouse that should work are the left and right mouse buttons, and the mouse wheel. If yo are using the Logitech software for the Mac, chances are since it won't recognize the g5, it is confused and thinks it is a different mouse. I'd suggest removing the Logitech software, and seeing if the basic mouse functions work using the regular Apple mouse drivers.

If it does, then you may want to try something like USB Overdrive to regain access to the additional buttons.

Hi Tom

Thanks for your rapid reply.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I haven't installed Logitechs own drivers. Until now, I had no need for them as Mac OS X supported my previous mouse smoothly.

Yeah, I know that the G5 is not listed as "supported", but I guess this only affects this special software for setting up your mouse for gaming. I don't use that.

Mac OS X natively supports mice with a lot more than just two buttons. I could use all four buttons (left, right, wheel, thumb) of previous mouse, a Cordless MouseMan Optical, as I can now with the new one.

I installed USB overdrive. The issues didn't appear, but I wasn't able anymore to call Expose with the wheel/thumb-button. So I uninstalled it right after installation.

The funny thing is that just after booting, the issue doesn't appear. I can load any application and the focus switches on it. After working for a while, the odd behaviour starts.

I'm gonna try to track down the cause, but I really think mice basic functionality should work all the time ...
