Change telephone number in iMessage

FYI,

I was facing that same issue where I could not get rid of my old number in iMessage and FaceTime.

After I tried everything I could find on the web, I just gave up.

Then, today, 4 days after I last tried, the number magically changed to my new one.

Thing is that I don't believe in magic.

So my conclusion is the system is working but just extremely slow, and the 24hours delay apple claims to be the max one should wait, is far from accurate.

I tried all of the methods yesterday and it didn't work.

Today I found out that we must have credits (balance) in our number for iMessage to send activation message to Apple's UK-based server. I top up my number's balance and tried the "Turn Off and Restart" method, then it worked. But my balance is reduced.

I think everytime we turn ON the iMessage toggle, it will send activation message to Apple Server and it has the activation charge.

Hope this will help somebody and sorry for my bad English.

Below method worked for me:

Change your number in Settings->General to your number you want to be using now

Go to iMessages,enable/disable iMessages

Will ask you to sign in to your apple id( if not logout with your Apple ID and then login again manually)

Should do it!!!

PS*: After changing your number the updates ( ur new number appearing) may require 2-3 days to reflect in you iMessages pane. So have a little patience

I have been trying to change the number for my iMessage and FaceTime but it's not working. The number that is showing is for my old sim now I want to change to my Airtel number but it's not working. I have been rebooting my phone all day

What's amazing is that people post to the thread without reading it first. The solution is on the first page of the thread. If people would just spend 10 seconds reading they would have the answer, and wouldn't have to post and wait for someone to repeat the solution.

I did the same, Turned off iMessage as well as FaceTime, from settings menu. Turned Iphone off, restarted and then turned on both imessage and facetime. It sorted out the problem.

Finally found this discussion. I tried a lot and this finally worked! Until now, I could not get the phone to forget the old phone number. Thanks!

The key is to change your phone number in Settings > Phone. If it is correct then try to change twice. First to any phone number and then to correct phone number.
