iOS5 slow and unstable on iPhone 4

It feels like iOS 4 on the 3G all over again, but after installing iOS5 on my iPhone 4 (Verizon) on Friday I've definitely noticed slowdowns in responsiveness and some application hangs. For example, the camera app hung several times and the Netflix app would often get stuck on buffering a new video until closed and re-opened. These all happened multiple times.

Oh well, time for the 4S I guess ;-)

I'm in the same boat, its like i've gone back to a 3g with iOS4.

Have tried 2 restores, now on iOS5.0.1, have removed all apps, have removed all EAS acccounts to test, all notifications etc to no avail. I doubt the 'genious' bar will be able to do much about it, this is a software bug, again.

Constant crashing of mail is the largest concern for a business tool, Push email is broken, the battery life is very poor and the device is rather laggy. Not happy!

Where we work we have over 800 Iphone users and we have had reports from users tha have upgraded to IOS5 or even the update 5.0.1 is the same. we have been asking users to not upgrade to IOS 5 but but has not been fixed by apple.

Probles reported by users and myself

Apps creashing, almost all the apps are crashing.

E-mail Crashing when typing email..***?

Phone is slow when unlocking and taking photos.

Even reports of more dropped calls than before with V4

Last week we started having users asking for use to load V4 back on the phone or replace it with a android.

this new OS5 ***** after having V4

Extremely sad to be posting this, but I'm glad you've posted what you have - especially on a large scale.

Most native iPhone apps have crashed during my "special Apple moments", aka, my daughter's birthday, my cousins' birthday, my wedding, my cat's first kittens, several important work emails, many many time-killing game app tries, trying to read the news... the list is never-ending.

I thought that it was probably out-of-date apps that were doing it, but even iPhone's proprietary apps do it, maybe even moreso.

I tried to remove iOS5.01 via iTunes just now but discovered that the full backups I'd been taking were not firmwares but only periphery files which I sync or backup outside of iTunes anway. Now I've also discovered I'm in a casual User iOS5.01 loop - downgrading to factory settings immediately prompts me to accept iOS5.01's update, or cancel to nothingness.

Can't believe it - next time it's Android for me, let's just hope Google etc win some more patent disptues!

Still no solution for me, my retailer told me to try and restore to factory settings. I did this, the first time the process crashed half way through. The second time it... worked, except that at the end my screen started *strobing* seriously, strobing, and then the phone faded from white to black. About 20% of the screen, around the edges, was still faintly glowing for about 3 hours until it slowly went away.

The reset worked in terms of having a functional iPhone... right up until it started going pixelated with solid colour lines and outright crashes again; particularly when using the camera.

Next up is a call to Apple, I'm told.

I made a visit to the genius bar and taught him how to read the logs(not just put them through diagnostics!)

I was told there was nothing wrong and if I want a new handset to try that it would be $A179... For a software bug.

I told them i would be rolling back to iOS 4.3.x to test before I handed over any money, and was told it was impossible due to the modem 'something', i said you mean the baseband? easy fix, DFU restore, how do they think the dev's do it with Betas ;-)

I have lost more faith in Apple ... and their so called 'genius bar'.

if iOS 5.1 doesnt resolve it(will be rolling back until then), I will be leaving the handset on iOS4.3.x, giving it to the woman and buying a WP7 handset!

actually i had the same problems, but i did managed to solve it, this is my solving method step by step below,

1, cleanup all the unread sms, dont leave it till like 100 over like i used to, it will lag everytime when u trying to text.

2, restoring to the iphone using itune( remember to back it up all the apps and photos, cos if later when restroing using the icloud , the most time consuming part its the apps installing and photos from wifi) so just choose restoring from icloud, its only takes like 10minites for the phone to get all settings like wallpaper, phone setting ,contactes, etc but not the apps , ringtones and photos. later u could sync all the rest with itune, its faster this way.

3, uncheck calander and also some apps u dont really needed in noticifation.

4, dont over keep to much photos and videos on the phone, back it all up on PC time to time.

5, dont ever jailbreak your iphone after ios 5.1, its useless for being pretty if super lag, there tons of free apps on itune.

6.quit some background apps time to time.

7, restart ur iphone time to time like once every month. ( holding home and the top left botton)

8, wish u luck buddies X3..

I have this problem with my iphone 4 ios5, where the call function in the phone just hangs, when I end a call. So when it hangs, I press the home button it's hidden, but when I press on the call function again, it goes back into the hanged end call.

I sometimes can't receive calls too. So I'm wondering is this the phone's problem or the telco services's problem.

Can anyone shed a light? =D
