Hi everyone,

I have an iPhone 4, since the upgrade to iOS 5 the music does not sound right, the bass sounds are really distorted.

I did a test playing one song in iTunes, with the same earphones, then copying it to the iPhone and the difference was huge. In iTunes the sound was perfect.

I've seen some comments about it on the internet, recommending to enable "Sound check", but that does not solve my problem. I have tried different EQ settings but all with the same result, so currently I have it on 'None'.

Usual questions.. does it happen to anyone else? any solutions or workarounds recommended?

Thanks!

iPhone 4, iOS 5

Check your music files on iTunes, left click and select Get Info, select the Options tab, you'll see a Volume Slider, maybe it's been moved to +100% somehow.

Had the same issue on iPhone 4S after upgrading to iOS5, seemed to have fixed it for me.

    I have the same problem, many songs doesn´t play,

    I have no solutions for these

    If you figure it out, please let me now

    Thanks

    Hi Pipe,

    If you can't play some songs, then it is a completely different problem. In my case all songs can be played, but the bass sounds of them sound really horrible.

    I found 2 posts about the same problem in this forum:

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16396153#16396153

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16400306#16400306

    I guess it does not happen to everyone, otherwise there would be a revolution around here. Because in my case, it is really noticeable, and very annoying (and I'm not an audiophile of any kind, or have any special earphones). I don't listen to music on the iPhone anymore because of this, and I'm thinking about downgrading it to 4.3.5, but I'm not completely sure because I love the notification bar.

    Does anyone know what is the best way to report a bug to Apple? Because I don't think anyone reads this forum. All I want to hear is a "This error is known to us, and we are working on a solution that will fix it for good when iOS 5.0.1 is released."

    Just to add another name to the list, keeping the pressure on Apple, I have the same problem - horribly distorted sound when played on iPhone itself, fine through headphone jack and on phonecalls but all sound notifications, ringtones and all music horrendously distorted.  Tried all suggestions for 'Sound check' and Equaliser with no difference.  Everything fine on iTunes and otherwise.

    Get me a fix soon please Mr Apple - before my family and work colleagues ban my phone!

    Thanks, Stu ...

    Thanks for the reply Will T! that could be a possible cause because I have all my songs always at +100%. Before iOS 5 it did not give any problems, and it saved battery

    I will test it when I get home!

    stufromwitney, I think my problem is exactly the opposite: through the iPhone mini-speakers the sounds is correct (or playing in the car via bluetooth); the problem is only when I plug in any earphones/headphones.

    @stufromwitney

    Try turning down the sound volume under Settings, Sounds, Ringer and Alerts.

    If no luck, try Settings, General, Accessability, Physical & Motor, Incoming calls, change default to Speakers.

    See if that does the trick, if still no luck, try music video or YouTube video and see what the quality is like. It might be a faulty unit with a dodgy loudspeaker.

    @Will - T

    It is too soon to tell for sure, but I think that was it! At least for the songs I have tried, it is working. Thanks again!

    @Will - T
    Thanks for the reply. Tried all of the suggestions, plus the Mono option but still the same I'm afraid.  I also looked at the music files on my iTunes but they are set at 0% volume adjustment and no equaliser.

    Tried a Youtube too but the same.

    Afraid I can't agree with the faulty loudspeaker diagnosis - this even affects lock, text and e-mail notification sounds and it worked fine the minutes before I did the upgrade, no sound was played during the upgrade and it didn't afterwards - the only difference was the upgrade.  Thanks again.
