Iphone 4S / iOS5 - Battery drain / issues - An idea Ihaven't seen anywhere yet (17th October 2011)....

Can everyone who is upset with Apple not addressing this issue PLEASE do their part and go write a quick note on Apple's Feedback page for the iPhone to let them know that we are all upset about this.

I expect probably better than now, has Apple will have probably released a software update to fix the battery issue long before then 🙂

Update: the reinstall of the Exchange account fixed the battery issue in 5.0, but now in 5.0.1 is back. And the fix is not a fix anymore because I keep having the battery problem. The battery in the iPhone 4 and iPad are better now in 5.0.1 compared to 5.0. So they still have to fix the 4S'.

4S is my first iPhone, so not sure what to expect from Battery, but not sure that loosing 10-12% while I'm sleeping is normal?

Still not better on 5.0.1 for my 4s. And there is a bug still where I'm getting mail notifications even though I've turned them off for the Mail app.

I woke up today after doing the 5.01 upgrade. Hoping for a fix. Charger showed 96%. After 38 minutes of usage now 77%. This is worse then before 5.01. Apple released a lemon. This phone is going back. It's the second one I tried and apple keeps getting worse. I'm considering dropping apple iPhone for a Samsung. I have 4 iPhones on my plan.

I did some testing yesterday. As everyone else, I too lost about 12-15% over the course of 1 night.

When I disabled mobile data and wifi however, I only lost about 5-6% for 11 hours, which seems to comply with Apple's 200 hours standby specification.

The battery drain bug is definitely related to data, possibly something with the push notification system. I do hope they'll fix this soon...

The problem definitely seems to be related to WiFi. When I disable WiFi and just use mobile data, my iPhone doesn't stay "in use" and doesn't drain its battery when it's in sleep mode.

I fixed the battery drain issues on my iPhone 4 by turning off the following System Services:

Location-Based iAds
Setting Time Zone
Traffic

These are all found in Settings - Locations Services - System Services

There's an update out now supposedly addressing battery life issues.

my 4s with os5.1 still wont last from 6am till bedtime around 11pm it usually turns off around 9pm thats with minimal use 2 or 3 short calls and maybe 4 or 5 texts! for me to use it normally i have to charge it at work during the day

My battery in my iPhone 4s drains now faster with the 5.0.1 update than with 5.0. Before it worked perfectly.

This is exactly what happened to me, called apple and they said my battery is healthy and fine and they can't do anything about it. I want to go back to 5.0!

I still think it comes down to the setup of the phone. I'm at over 4 hours of usage and 23 hours of standby right now and my battery is at 55%. The battery drained on me once, the day I got the phone and I hadn't changed any of the default configs. Once I tweaked everything, it's been fine.

i should've also said ^ above that ive deactivated everything except wi-fi and message/mail notifications...... but it does make you feel that there's no point having all this stuff on the phone if it has to be turned off for the phone to give you a resonable standby battery life :-(
