use installer to delete packages

According to Article ID: 60039, you can use The Installer.app to delete a package. "Deleting a package is accomplished by double-clicking on its receipt located in the /Local/Library/Receipts directory. When the Installer is done opening the receipt, the "Delete" button and the "List" button will be active. The "Delete" button removes the files installed by the package and also the package receipt itself."
The instructions are all wrong, for 10.3? Can the Installer that comes with 10.4 be used to remove a package? If not, is there a way to remove/uninstall a package?

The following KB article, Mac OS X Server: The Installer.app is referring to Mac OS X Server, which is different from the normal, "client" OS X installation.

I think the information in that article is from the original or very early release of Mac OS X Server, as it's using terms such as "File Viewer" and "Workspace Manager", which are taken directly from NeXTStep.

You might check on http://www.versiontracker.com for an application that can uninstall applications based on the package receipt.

Hope this helps.....

I was trying to re-install Mac OS X server. We thought we might have messed up the installation so we were looking for a way to uninstall or re-install Mac OS X server and came across the info for removing a package by using the Installer and opening the receipt, but apparently the instructions on the Apple web site are obsolete.
