my iphone 4s randomly turns itself off please help

My new 4S randomly turns itself off. Most of the time I am not doing anything and go to check something to find it has turned off. Normally after a few minutes it will turn itself back on, but is still a pain. Please help!

iOS 5, iPhone 4S

Hello manuelshaju,

It looks like you are having very much the same problem as I have. When I was in the US I went to an apple store, there they loaded an entirely new firmware in, because they believed it would help. It didn't.

From what I read on this topic, the only way out seems a replacement. Since your phone is out of warranty (like mine is) it looks like you have to pay some amount for a replacement (still cheaper than buying a new one).

So you are in bad luck---but you are not the only one... I haven't gone for the repleacement, yet, I am just cursing the device several times a day instead.

Cheers,

Interesting when you see very similar threads for the 3gs, 4 and 4s. Theres an awful lot of people with the same annoying problem. Personally I've done a restore, bought a new battery, replaced the power button and changed ios. None of these are solutions. My phone cuts out every 2nd phone call i make these days. Care to help out apple??

I have the exact same problem with my iPhone 4S, as manuelshaju has.
In my opiniom it seems to be a hardware problem, and I suspect either the display or the battery to cause this randomly rebooting - as it even does it when I have factory reset the phone, and the start up wizard is shown.
But as I have no warranty on the product anymore, I need to fix it myself, as a replacement is to expensive compared with the prices of either a used og a brand new without subscription.
If anybody have found a solution, pls. post
Tnx
/Piet

Hello Piet,

I have walked around for about 3/2 years with this phone that shut itself off randomly multiple times a day. After a few months the power button also gave up so that turning it on involved attaching it to a charger.

Because of the lousy support from the manufacter (they basically laughed at me because there was a scratch is the display that voided all warrenty---clever lawyers), the solution I took in the end was to get a new phone, but this time from a different brand.

I hope that this is better quality hardware.

As for the problem of randomly shutting off, I believe a replacement is the only option.

i had a wonderful 4s, and we were very much in love. then sprint dismantled its network causing insane outages and tried to blame it on my device. so i had them run diagnostics. from which they found no antenna problems (sprint has since accepted responsibility) but they said they found a critical battery issue that qualified me for a full replacement. mind you, i had zero complaints about battery life, but a new phone after almost 2 years? yes please.

the joke is on me. this refurb 4s is awful. among various other nuances, it has this "turning itself off" issue. when i plug it in, nothing happens. somehow i thought to hold down the power and home buttons, and after about 15 seconds the apple flashes on the screen and the phone starts back up. BUT, once it has rebooted, the wifi and bluetooth are disabled with no way to turn them back on. i have to power the phone off and back on for them to work again. super convenient. no rhyme or reason as to when or why it happens.

sprint's reply was "apple keeps all of the good phones for itself and gives us bad refurbs, so go to an apple store." conveniently located about an hour from my home. yaaaaayyyy.

Had my iPhone 4S for less than a year and half and all of a sudden it started to shut down and restart on its own every 3-4 mins. When it does restart the battery life is drastically drained. Prior to this happening I remember the phone was always hot and even hotter when it started to malfunction and restart on its own. I followed one recommendation to uninstall and restore the software from iTunes. I tried this unsuccessfully because it would shut down and reboot before iTunes could complete its download. Each time I tried it came up with a #29 error message (which means there's a malfunction in the hardware). Finally headed to the Genius Bar and the guy first told me I would need a new iPhone since it was out of warranty, but then he replaced the battery (for free) incase that was the hardware in question and it worked! iPhone is no longer hot to the touch and seems to be operating normally. Hope this helps.

I am having the same issue. ** MY IPHONE 4 IS TURNING OFF RANDOMLY ** and it's driving me crazy.

THE SYMPTOM... I am using my phone fine and then when I go to send a text, take a photo, etc, it just turns off.

This started a few weeks ago after upgrading to the new IOS. The 'symptoms' increased in frequency and my phone started turning off more frequently. I took my Iphone to the apple store. They reset the phone to factory standards and the problem still exists.

THE PROBLEM: The guy at the Genius Bar said he knows there is a known software issue, and this looks like it's affected my processor. BUT this was only after I told him that I have been reading about a lot of other people having the same problem. Regardless, they told me today because it was a 'HARDWARE ISSUE', they would not replace it. I bought my phone in April of 2011 so it's almost 3 years old. BUT, it's in perfect condition and I still have my original Iphone 3 and that still works fine, so they're should be no problem with my 4.

THE SOLUTION: What do I do to just get a replacement phone??

Guys,

please read the old posts!!! when you ask for help, we at least except that you read all the stuff through instead of posting another "HELP"

the solution is right in front of your eyes, replace the battery instead of the whole phone!

its about 10-20 bucks to buy! so what....give em a try! its worth it, because it works.

- replace battery.....once and for all!!!
