my iphone 4s randomly turns itself off please help

My new 4S randomly turns itself off. Most of the time I am not doing anything and go to check something to find it has turned off. Normally after a few minutes it will turn itself back on, but is still a pain. Please help!

iOS 5, iPhone 4S

I am having a similar issue where the phone randomly turns off and will only turn back on after a hard reset. I will just pick it up to make a call and it is no longer functional until the hard reset. I have restored the phone, as new, not from a backup, with no luck. I might be imagining it but I think it is happening shortly after using the camera but I haven't been able to replicate. Will go to the store when I get a chance but curious if this is happening to others.

FYI. I posted this same thing in a diff. place but this is a more accurate thread heading.

I'm having the same issue with my new iPhone 4S 64 GB. I had this same issue with my 3G a few years ago and it took a few weeks for Apple to patch it. What's odd is that it seems to have affected only certain phones (hardware), but a software patch fixed it. One thing I just tried was doing "Reset Network Settings," (which others have said fixed this issue on other phones). We'll see if that works. It's been happening about once a day.

I, too, have run into this problem a couple of times now. The first time was about a day after I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 5. Then, yesterday, it happened again, but on my new iPhone 4S. So to me, it looks like an iOS 5 problem. As such, it seems to me like one of those strange bugs that occasionally crop up but are usually pretty hard to track down. I hope that Apple can identify it and fix it soon.

I'm having the same issue with my 16GB iPhone 4S for AT&T A few minutes after I put my iPhone into standby mode, it powers off. Only a hard reset will bring the phone back to life. I'm not positive, but I think this has happened after I just got done using the Facebook app. This has happened twice over the past two days.

Same problem here, I seem to be able to reboot hiding the home and power button.

It seems to happen after using the camera and I have noticed there is a small spot under the camera to the left of the apple logo that gets pretty hot, it's happened twice in 2 days.

I wouldnt say I'm a heavy user but have used the camera a fair bit.

Just noticed the back has got pretty hot whilst typing this. Maybe a trip to the apple store is needed

I have a 32 gig 4s. No symptoms on wife's 16gig 4s

Well it happened again tonight and since it's only been a week i phoned up Orange and asked them to send me a new one.

Will get a replacement tomorrow, my advice to anyone with an issue (well maybe just in UK) would be phone up your service provider and if it's within warranty ask for a new one and don't let the fob you off by sending you to the Apple store.

I hink it helps if you phone up more than once, as well, so phone one day do what they say to do, then phone up the next day and say it has happened again (which in my case it really had)

I'll keep you posted if the next one does the same thing.

On a side note and maybe/maybe not related but i wasn't receiving any emails (me.com from migrated to icloud) regularly either and had to sync manually to get them, where as my wifes would come through normally as they did on my 3gs
