iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing. Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue? I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

So far I've gone through 3 different iPhone 4Ss, they all exhibited the same problem at some point. I am a heavy headphone user so perhaps there is something to the suggestion that switching to the headphones triggers the problem though I can't tell for sure whether it's hardware or software. Seems to me that this problem is potentially affecting a large % if not all of the iPhones out there. 3/3 is too much of a bad luck.

I regret getting into the iPhone 4S, should have stayed with an iPhone 4 that at least functioned as a phone. The iPhone 4S is turning out to be a horrible release, far worst than the antennagate.

Same problem here. Got new iPhone 4S yesterday and when the issue does occur - which seems to be more often than not for me the phone looks as if it is dialing but I do not hear the rings, the timer starts counting up when the other party answers but I cannot hear them and they cannot hear me. Once in awhile I can hear them but they cannot hear me. Very frustrating. Positng this to further reinforce to Apple this is an issue that needs to be fixed.

I just got back from the Apple Store (which is about 2 hours away) and they exchanged my phone because I was able to reproduce the problem. Now I have no issues, but then again, I have only had it for about hours and have made numerous calls. This is my first iPhone, but I am leaning towards this being a hardware issue. My suggestion is to get another phone.

Just my 2 cents.

I got mine replaced @ the Apple Store yesterday. We verified that it wasn't my Bluetooth headset. So far so good.

I've read comments in this and other threads regarding the level and quality of support for this issue. I will go on record as saying Apple really did well by me. Both in store and over the phone.

More of the same here. I am able to reproduce my problem over and over again. I would like someone else to try and see if it happens to them as well. First unplug headphones, then have someone call you, while the phone is ringing plug your headphones in and answer the call, all should be working at this point. Now end your call, leaving the headphones pluged in, place a call to anyone and your speaker light should come on and you should have no audio in headphones, internal or external speaker, clicking the speaker button will turn the light off but not bring back sound at all. the only thing i can do to fix this is wait 20 min or restart the phone, If i try to make a call without fixing the problem, the timer starts loggin the call time but i cannot hear anything and the person on the other end cannot hear me......i guess ill have to wait for an update.........

Swapped iPhone 4s-64Gb today at Apple Store. I had performed a restore from backup to the original phone, and did NOT resolve the problem. Got a slight question from the Genius Bar guy who wanted me to restore to factory defaults. After a brief debate as to the benefit, he caved and replaced the phone. So far, audio problem with both headset and bluetooth resolved. If you don't hear back from me on this thread within a week, you can rest assured it is a hardware problem that was resolved with a replacement.

Chiming in here to say that I had this issue on 1 of the 3 iPhone 4Ses that I have had so far (1 new, 2 replacements) and did not notice it with the others. About 30% of the time the earpiece would not function when making a call and I also noticed that about 5% of the time the earpiece would 'work' but would have this terrible distorted sound to it (not the static / popping others are experiencing). Because of the distortion I thought it must have been a hardware issue but perhaps not given how widespread the first problem seems to be.

I'm in the uk and have had this problem for the last 10 days. Took the phone (64gb black) back to the Manchester Arndale Apple store and they immediately replaced it...they wanted me to try to restore as a new phone but I said I had already restored from iCloud and others had restored as new without success. Phone seems to be working ok so far - used Siri and paired with my car over BT - so does look hardware-related. Full marks to Apple support as well.
