iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing. Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue? I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

I have this problem intermittently. I go days without it happening, then it happens again. It just now happened again and I decided to search for the issue...lo and behold, I find this thread. I know I have tried toggling the speaker on and off during one of these "no audio outgoing calls" and that hasn't seemed to work for me...I'll try it a few more times, since it seems to work for most people. I have a black iPhone 4s 32GB.

I'm going to add my post to this thread so we have at least one large thread with a list of the problems (there are MANY other posts on the board, but this one appears to be the largest one I've come across.) I have an AT&T, 64GB, White iPhone 4s. Intermittant audio on outgoing calls is the issue. I have been through all of the listed fixes -- reset network settings, total reset, restore, DFU restore. All to no avail.

I'm in between on going through the trouble of going to my "local" Apple store (2 hours away) to roll the dice on getting a new device (although the last tech I spoke to said they would note it in my case.) It also appears to me that replacing the phone only fixes the issue in 50% of the cases. Hopefully, if we continue to pile up complaints it will be addressed, HOPEFULLY by a software fix (which is likely.) We will see.

Hey Apple! When are you going to say something about this? It's the loudest topic on the iPhone 4S Support forum, people bought a phone with a major flaw, yet there is no acknowledgement that someone is working on a solution and what you think the problem is, it's been more than 2 weeks since launch and this issue started on day one. I would never again buy an iPhone at launch and before checking the support forum to see that all problems are resolved, maybe I'll start sticking with my old iPhone for 2-3 years instead of upgrading every year, maybe I'll look into android. Start taking responsibility or you'll start loosing my business.

Hello everyone!

Like everyone else here, I had this irritating problem on my iPhone 4S 32Gb White, which was purchased in France. Tried a restore about 4 times, no fix.

But I think I've managed to find a solution.

Go to Location Services -> System Services and turn OFF "Cell Network Search". Actually, I disabled everything exept "Compass Calibration".

After that, the problem seem to disappear. I made about 10 calls and the speaker worked properly.

Please write here if this solution help you, my iPhone seems to work fine.

PS: Sorry for possible mistakes, I'm from Russia. 🙂

Here is an update on my iPhone 4S 64GB.

Took it into an Apple Store over the weekend and described the problem with one way audio and explained what I had done to try to fix it. The genius replaced it without any further questions.

Have made a lot of calls over the last few days on the new iPhone, using built-in mic, bluetooth and plugged in headset - no problems whatsoever. Apart from this one fault, the old iPhone and new one performed exactly the same.
