iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing. Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue? I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

Hi there,

I havent experienced the keyboard problem on my iOS5.1 beta 3 - and I am on iPhone4S...Maybe you should try to reinstall it.. The bug on 'Battery ussage' was also seen on when I had iOS 5.0.1, no big deal..

I am on my 18'ed day on iOS5.1 beta 3 --> NO 'outgoing call no audio' issue experienced since I updated to iOS5.1 beta 3. Still experiencíng sometimes 3G falling out - seeing forward for MARCH with the iOS 5.1 official release..

Hi,

Thanks for response, Yes the OCNA issue has benn resolved in new IOS 5.1, but there are some points that i want to be mentioned below :

First of all, when you buy the phone you expect it to works as a phone! with normal phone functionalities, if you have an experiance in old and traditional fones, you want that your new smart phone covers all that basic features, after using your idevice, you will see that you can't make call as normal phones !!

The SMS delivery will not supported by this device, bluetooth dose not work such as another phones and so on...

these things put you in worst mentally situation.

some apple users are not home user with low knowlage of computer since, and they want to use all great functions in their devices, when i bought my phone, i saw that i bought a great game console and it is not a phone, because i cant make call like NOKIA 1100 whit no cpu no OS no every thing...

I can't use it with bluetooth for files and pictures transfer, because they have the final version of it but it is not enable, apple says it is for copyright laws and so on, but it is not acceptable

you cant put ringtone, theme and access directly via ssh to the other device... apple says you can buy ssh client terminal in app sotre, but when i buy the phone based on unix it can be free and default installed on the phone, FYI, these are not my main point.

i put these pictures here for apple's official staffs for resolving them in final released

also when you comparing the crash result you see apple needs to know the bugs,

now you paied lots of money for an expensive phone but it dose not work normaly

Apple did not respose it officially !!!!!!!

Why, the customer is not important for apple ?

they incomes and money turnovers is from other planets ?!!!

people is less important than the customers ?!

I want just noticed these points to apple for resolving these issue, and improve the customer services.

I Love Apple Phone, it is great, with very great performance, but there are some bugs already exist in device, and i hope they will fixed in new release as soon as possible.

I'm neither willing nor savvy enough to mess with putting iOS 5.1 beta on my new 4s . . . . so I'll just wait for the final release and hope for the best. In the meantime I have been free of the OCNA problem for 3 days now, knock on wood. I did the turn on SIRI (which was off), THEN went to turn off 'Raise to Speak' (which was on). Then off again for Siri, then phone restart. So far so good (22+ calls). Intuitively I'm wondering if the bug is in the 'Raise to Speak' feature, and that the sporadic nature of the audio cut-off is due to the various different ways we raise the phone to our ear and that new weird IR sensor.

I just tried your suggestion, but it didn't work for me. When you say "phone restart," do you mean simply turning the phone off then on. Or, do you mean a hard restart with the home and sleep button held at the same time?

BTW: I'm not putting a beta version on my new 4S either.

I bought my 4s 2 weeks ago and I had the outgoing call problem from the beginning I sent it back to wind here in Greece and after their test and apples recommendation for a restore they returned it to me 1 week later saying all is ok

Unfortunately every call from there on had no sound.

I updated to 5.1 beta 3 and now 3 days all is working great.

Only bug Ive found is I cannot switch call waiting on or off

The switch doesn't work

Hello,

I bought finally the dream brand new Iphone 4S in Poland from my mobile operator,

and I have the same problem.. Many of the outgoing calls keep on mute..I have to switch on and off the speaker to hear the person from the other end..it's really annoying.

I am thinking of visiting an Apple service..

I am really dissappointed..almost a perfect mobile with such a bug...............I still can't believe that..

Why Apple is not announcing about that problem and simply exchange the problematic devices...

Same problem. Just got my iPhone last night through Telus in Canada.

No handset sound on outgoing calls. It's not random or anything like that. Every call I make has this problem. Quickly figured out the speakerphone workaround, but I'm not impressed.

Talked to Telus tech support and they said I'd have to bring it into the store, that I only get 3 total repairs, and that they very likely would not replace the phone.

So, screw that. Going to deal with Apple directly and get a replacement, just in case.

Update on my previous post. I sent my week old phone to Apple, where it was diagnosed, and replaced with a brand new one. So far, the new one appears to be in perfect working order. I highly recommend that anyone who is still under warranty, especially if you just recently bought your phone, send it in to Apple for replacement ASAP. Don't wait around because it might mean the difference between a new or refurbished replacement. Good luck all!

The problem with sending the phone back to Apple is that many of us no longer TRUST Apple . . . . many if not most of their front line store help or phone help personnel know nothing of what this thread is about - and many of us have already replaced the phone to NO AVAIL. So we are left with fumbling about while Apple chooses SILENCE vs. SALES. A bit of up front honesty about the issue from Apple would be amazing in resolving the frustrations around this issue - but, bottom line, I bet they don't yet even know what the **** is going on. I'm hanging on for 5.1 - if that doesn't do it then 'Hello Android'. A dysfunctional phone AND dysfunctional company just doesn't work for me. Sell your Apple stock before it becomes obvious to the masses.

Feb 16, 2012 1:59 AM in response to cllL

Well, that reasoning is kind of misguided. Obviously, the tech team is aware of the issue, and has no problem replacing the phones under warranty. Yeah, it ***** buying a malfunctioning product, but it's not like Apple refuses to help at all. What do you want? A magic fix? Even if Apple made an announcement about this, you would still have to send in your phone to be diagnosed and replaced. It takes about 2 minutes to make a product replacement request online. But if you would rather sit around and wait for some official announcement, all the best to you.

Thanks for your comments, Mirm83. My problem occurred again last night, so yes . . . . I guess I'll try anything. This isn't the most encouraging thread though, you know? Is it software, hardware, some fixes work for awhile then not. Crazy making!!! The problem doesn't always replicate in the store (which I am very far from) . . . . and phone support I suppose I'll try again. But is there a way to do this online without the complete loss of my phone for awhile? The replacement procedure you mention seems to require I give up the unit and then wait an unspecified time?? This won't work for me. I do love the phone itself -- just wish it wasn't so wonky and difficult to replace.

Feb 16, 2012 7:57 AM in response to cllL

Just switched out my phone with Verizon directly via their phone support. Still same issue and if anything it is worse with this replacment.

It has to be a software issue of some sort.

This is our 4th phone with the same issue.

1- First phone (original)- Outgoing call no audio (OCNA)

2- Apple Store replacement - replicated Outgoing call no audio (OCNA) in store, replaced, took about 1.5 hours

3- Apple Store replacement #2- replicated Outgoing call no audio (OCNA) in store, replaced, took about 1 hour

4- Replaced from Verizon. I called up verizon, told them to look up "Outgoing call no audio" for Iphone and he found this thread. He sent replacement. Still having issue.

Looking up the serial on the latest it shows it was produced in China C3 in January.

I really hope Apple get a patch out soon.
