iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

I have a Verizon 16GB iphone 4s and have been having similar issues. The first month there were no issues and it has gotten progressively worse. The issue is not limited to outgoing calls and at this point my iphone makes no sound at all when it is acting up. When I use the volume control buttons on the side of the phone the volume icon appears on the screen with the sound waves but I am not able to change them at all. The volume icon is alsoj missing the dashes at the bottom that typically shows up when I change the volume.

I also have this issue with my wife's iPhone 4s (T-mobile, 16GB), but the 5.1 beta 3 definitely solve the problem.

i've been on 5.1 beta 3 for more than a week now and i have not had one call go wrong. upgrade with no fear.

I have the exact same problem. i cant hear the persom i am calling and they cant hear me. happens 2 out of 10 times. also when there is no audio, there is echo.

What is the solution to this?

Yes, I am sure. Before the firmware upgrade she has bad calls 1-3 out of 10. She use the 5.1b3 more than a week and she does not experienced any problem...

where can we try 5.1b3, is this a beta version of iOS?

The workaround of pressing the "speaker" on then off seems to work to get the call working. Hopefully this is addressed in the next release

Yes, 5.1b3 is a Beta version for developpers. So you can install only if you have a developer account.

You don't have to be a developer to upgrade there is information on where to Download on page 145 of this forum. But once downloaded press shift + upgrade on iTunes so as to choose it do not press shift +restore.

As I said been problem free over a week now

I went to 5.1b3 a month ago and it resolved the problem. I haven't had a single reoccurance since, hundreds of calls. The fix will likely be in the official 5.1 release, when it comes out. In the meantime, upgrade to 5.1b3 and there is a pretty good chance you'll be done with this problem. Instructions on how to do this have been posted many times to this discussion group. It takes a little while to download the software, but just a few minutes to put it on the phone.

If you back up your phone in iTunes and restore again, the iPhone is automaticly updated to build 9A406.

(Please find the right way to way to do it).
