iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing. Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue? I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

How is it that this is still ongoing? I bought my iPhone a couple months ago and this problem started almost immediately and has gotten worse. It now occurs with the headphones plugged in and turning on and off the speaker doesn't help. I have to go in and change some settings in order to make it work. I suppose swapping hardware is the next step, but my iPhone was new as of 2 months ago...

We've had our iphone 4s since day 1, and it's always had the OCNA issue. We expected it would be fixed with a software update, but it's still a problem and i'm starting to lose patience. Could someone let me know if i can return the phone for a replacement if it's already a couple of months old? If this isn't solved one way or the other, this will certainly be the last apple phone i ever buy.

After going through several replacement phones from my local store. My first three all ended up with the OCNA issue and one that the battery apparently went bad to one that started out okay and then developed the OCNA issue. I called Apple and after talking to a phone tech, asked to speak to a supervisor or advanced tech. I was connected to one right away. When she looked into my history, she told me that the first few were from the same batch. The last one was from a different batch. She arranged to send me a brand new phone, not a replacement phone where it's anyone's guess if it is new or remanufactured. So far, it is working great. I would see if you can talk to a supervisor, it helped me. I don't know what week it was manufactured in because I am leery about putting my serial number in at a website.

Yes, your iphone should be under warranty for a year, barring any inflicted damage. Get it replaced. Don't take it to your carrier, make an Apple Product replacement request online. The techs are obviously aware of the issue, they've replaced the phones of many in this thread. It's completely free if you're under warranty, including shipping. You'll have a replacement phone in less than a week.

I don't understand why people are doing anything else but this. These are expensive phones. Demand what you paid for. Nicely, of course.

Make sure to call your carrier and let them know about this issue and the replacement process. They may credit you on your bill for the time the phone has been gone.

Yeah the iPhone 4s is acting strange with too many BUGS..😠

* - SIRI SOMETIMES DOESNT ACTIVATE WHEN YOU HOLD IT ON YOUR EAR & SOMETIMES EVEN WHEN YOU PRESS THE HOME BUTTON FOR IT TO ACTIVATE,

* - SPEAKER BUTTON HIGHLIGHT ON ITS OWN, WHEN YOU MAKE A CALL & DOESNT LET YOU DISABLE IT..

* - THE ACCESSIBLITY LED FLASH FOR ALERT WORKS SOMETIMES & SOMETIMES DOESNT WORK...YOU NEED TO DISABLE IT AND RESTART AND THEN ENABLE IT AGAIN FOR IT TO WORK.

* - WHEN YOU MAKE A CALL 1 OUT OF 3 CALLS IS NEVER HEARD.. HAVE TO TRY IT AGAIN & AGAIN TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.. MY OWN VOICE ECHOES IN THE IPHONE SPEAKER..

* - IN THE MAIL APP ,WHEN I TRY DOWNLOADING A ATTACHMENT ,IT DOWNLOADS THE FILE AND SOMETIME DISAPPEARS. I HAVE TO WAIT OR RESTART TO SEE THE FILE

********************* HOPE APPLE SOLVES ALL BUGS 😟 *********************

SiRi has nothing to do with it! I stop SiRi and the problem still persists. The thing is when the phone was new, i had no problems what so ever with. After a few weeks started this stupid no audio on outgoing calls. So, i think it's a hardware malfunction.. I'm thinking of sending it back to apple and get a replacement.

Hi,

OCNA has been completly fixed in New Version

Except previous bugs (keyboard & Screen Refresh ) that i mentioned before for IOS 5.1 Beta 3 also i find these bugs :

1- 3G button has been added, when you off the 3G after while it is automatically on ! ( My SIM works only with 2G network and it dos not support 3G at all, i off 3G and when i come back to menu i see it is on)

2- Battery life not saleint change

3- if you off notification for all applications some application push banner as a notification !

Had the same problem - OCNA - and a possible solution. Try turning off the setting "General/Siri/Raise to Speak". When it's on, the system automatically routes the audio to the loud speaker so that Siri can talk to you. If "Raise to Speak" is on and you call a phone number, it appears that the same thing happens. The system sends the audio signal to the loud speaker as you bring the phone to your ear. This would explain why pressing the speaker icon would return the audio to the ear speaker. I turned off this setting and so far the phone has worked reliably. (32Gb 4S)
