Q: iPhone 4S - Outgoing call no audio

Picked up a Verizon iPhone 4S - 32GB and on about 1 in 10 calls I get no outbound audio when dialing.  Call shows the timer counting as if the call is progressing but absolutely no ring back and cannot hear the party on the other end when they answer.

Anyone else having this issue?  I've found a few forums online stating people have had luck hitting the speaker button on and off to get it working again but it hasn't failed in the past 20 minutes for me to test that theory..

Thanks...

Just like to add my name to the massive list !!

First 2 weeks with my new 4s 16gb was perfect, then.........bang 1 in every 5-6 calls, OCNA sent it back to apple for 'bench testing' & 'diagnostics' and they said they couldn't replicate the same problem. Being a first time apple customer I'm feeling a bit disgruntled. However I do understand that these complicated devices will have 'bugs' but whats more worrying is that apple haven't even acknowledged there IS an issue. I'm going into my local store for a replacement and i'll keep going back until I get one that does what I paid for !!

I'd like to know how many people that have updated to Beta three are not having the same issues now. I've seen a few posts where some have said they updated to Beta three and are still having the audio issues. Please weigh in. Thanks

I have an 4s for about 2 months, frequent audio issues, upgraded to 5.1 Beta 3 a week ago and since then no issues, neither when making calls nor when using earphones.

Today I send my IPhone 4S for repair? I'm curious what will happened? I'm from Bulgaria M-Tel carrier. Really I hope to receive a new one! If I have the same problem, I'll send it back to Apple. I can overcome to loss of 500 euros and never buy any Apple product.

How can I go 5.1 b3 without being developer.

Further, I think apple should help the dev team jailbreak their products, because they are better in fixing iphone hickups than apple.

And do I feel cheated, iphone without the phone is a kids ipod. Why aren't they aknowladging the problem, knowing that many are agonizing with it. Is this just arrogance or ignorance or just that the person who made it all just died and no one cares any more.

I tried the " record 5 seconds of my voice" method just now, then i made about 20 calls, and the problem seems to have gone. I dont understand this, but I hope it works anyway.

However if this turns out to really, fully fix the problem, then apple must check their employee recruting policy and maybe salaries too.

    Thanks

I purchased my iphone 4S a week after it launched. I am experiencing the same audio problems when making outbound calls. It's very frustrating. I haven't found anything on apple's website about a 'fix' for this issue and the software update did not seem to do anything either. Does anyone know anything about this? There is an apple store not too far from me. Should I go to them or would I be wasting my time?

I purchsed 4s at Canada. Have the same problem: about 70% outgoung calls has no audio. Switching speaker  on/off always fix this problem. I think this is a problem in soft (iOS5, iOS5.0.1).

    When 5.1 will available?

I installed 5.1 Beta 3 a few days ago, the "no sound on outgoing calls" problem seems to be gone. On iOS 5.0 and 5.0.1 I had this problem nearly every third call.

Another one from the Netherlands with the same problem. It seems to be more noticable after my bluetooth car kit was used and just disconnected. When you place a call with the iPhone in your hand in the normal way after that, the sound from the earpiece is gone.

I already thought so but reading the posts here makes me believe it is a software problem so I am kind of relieved and will wait for Apple to issue the new version. I did send a complaint to Apple in iTunes.

Just to test it, I did the "record 5 seconds of sound with the recorder and play it back, solution" just to see if it might help for now. That was yesterday and I only reveived calls and did not make them till now.

    We will see.

Anyhow, knowing this I will not bring my iPhone for repair since it seems te be of no use and I don't want to be withouth it for so long.
