iPhone 4S mic not always working

I have been having intermittent issues with my iPhone 4S where the mic will stop working for periods of time. I believe it is software related because in the past two occassions, rebooting the phone will fix the issue.

When the mic isn't working, the phone, Siri, and voice notes will all register no sound from the microphone.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is this something that will be fixed in an upcoming update, or do I need to take the hardware in to be replaced?

Have exactly same problem with iPhone 4S 32GB.

Microphone works, but partially.

Bad work in speakerphone mode.

Siri bad recognizing voice

Camera.app also work too bad (but third party camera applications works well)

i tried to clean up little hole on a top of the iPhone body (see below)

it's a secondary (calibration) microphone

And voila!!! Now mic works like a charm!!!

I did as suggested and fixed my problem...YAY!!! Now I will cancel my genius bar appt in 1/2 hr...I took a needle and stuck it into the very tiny hole next to the speaker...

Were you able to fix your phone? I am having the same problem. However, when I use voice memos the audio recorded is very faint. I have replaced the mic and am still having the same problem. I believe the problem is not the microphone but rather a different piece of hardware that is quieting the audio to nearly nothing. People can here me blow into the phone on a call, but that is all.
