Storage almost Full message appearing constantly on my iPhone 4

Yes may be a stupid question BUT i can't find this anywhere online. So I need a bit of help on this.

I get a pop-up on the screen every so often ...

Storage almost Full message appearing constantly on my iPhone 4 only AFTER updating to iOS5. After update iOS5 seems to have stolen nearly a BIG chunk of my iPhone's memory/storage for itself, so had to remove a number of apps to give myself at least 700mb free. Message pop-up still appears. I then removed yet more apps - note that with the old iOS4's I never had this issue & all the apps I was removing now worked perfectly fine on the phone!

Then had over 2gb free & yet I was STILL getting the message. My iCloud is 100% free (ie 5gb available). Storage in settings/useage shows up as 2gb+ free.

So what's going on???

The pop-up states: "Storage Almost Full you can manage your storage in Settings."

I tried the turn off iCloud the on again. Nothing. I then tried back up to laptop and got the not enough storage to back up line. This is an iCould issue I'm convinced. So I went to this page and followed the instructions and also turned off iCloud back up. I will sync when I plug into my laptop I Guess. I'l post if this has worked but it's worth exploring and good luck. Very frustrating APPLE! And my experience calling in has not always gone smoothly nor free!

Manage your iCloud storage

I am having the same problem with my iPhone 5s running 8.1.2. My phone setting show 6.3GB of storage available on the phone and 14.5GB of storage available on iCloud. I've talked with tech support several times and have reset and restored phone numerous times as they directed and still have this problem. I've tried a few things I've read in this thread also. This started when I changed from iPhone 5 to 5s. One guy said it was a glitch in the upgrade or restore or something when I changed phones but they haven't been able to fix it. Any suggestions? Thanks

I was facing this issue for almost a week now.. i tried everything mentioned in this forum... though it clears up temporarily, the storage is back to 0 bytes almost immediately.. then i found that i never close any of my windows.. and it was clogging up the memory.. when u double click on the home button.. u see a lot of open screens.. close every one by swiping upwards.. and around 1.4 GM memory was cleared.. this worked for me 🙂

I've got the iPhone 5s & i'm getting the storage msg come up as well. I've deleted so much off the phone music/pix & soon on it seems hardly worth having the phone anymore. I'm gonna fire off an email of complaint to apple/iTunes, which will basically say sort it or they lose my custom ( I suggest people do the say otherwise apple will ignore this problem). I feel this is a way of being forced into using icloud ( something I don't want to use & have no interest in) & also having apps I do not use & cannot delete off the phone.

Hello Mr Finch,

Thank you for your suggestion! It's been massively helpful.

I was wondering if you have any idea as to why my ipad is acting up. I've been getting the "storage almost full" message despite having 10Gb free on a 56Gb ipad drive.

My 10Gb disappears when I open Safari - and then the message pops up, ipad freezes, hard reset. Everything runs slightly slow, reads at 10Gb available, but actually runs.

As long as I don't open up Safari, the ipad runs. I suspect its a safari cache issue, but I can't think how to get to it.

Any suggestions?

I think I may have worked out why my iPhone 5s space steadily keeps depleting to 0 over time (until I start getting the ‘Storage Almost Full’ messages). Everyone’s problems and solutions to Apple issues are so individualistic though, so I’m not sure whether my explanation will be relevant for everyone. I first tried everything listed in these kind of threads, such as deleting WhatsApp data, to logging out and back into iTunes account, etc. Nothing worked.
On your iPhone If you go on ‘Settings’ and then on ‘App and iTunes Store’ you will find a section called ‘Automatic Downloads’ with options for Music, Apps, Books and Updates. If you switch these on, the iPhone will sync purchases made from these categories. I figured that these had been interfering with the space on my iPhone so I switched them all off (Note also that I have never used iCloud and have always been logged out of it, so I do not believe that is affecting things).
Here is the strange thing – even when these options were switched off, the iPhone still seemed to register that I had made purchases (in my case, music purchases). I know this because every time I purchased music on my iTunes PC, the iPhone Music app would start showing a ‘Purchased’ playlist. I regularly have always deleted this ‘Purchased’ playlist, so I know that it has only appeared when purchases have been made on my iTunes account (even though I am specifically requesting that they not be synced to the iPhone itself). Once the ‘Purchased’ playlist is deleted it stays deleted, until I buy more music on my iTunes account. Although the music I purchase does not appear on the iPhone itself, I think there is some sort of glitch happening whereby the iPhone space depletes according to new purchases made. I think this would also be the case for buying and updating Apps, Books, etc. It’s almost like a ‘ghost’ imprint of your iTunes activity affecting the storage capacity of the iPhone.

Thus the only way I have been able to stop my space size from shrinking is to make sure I do not make any new purchases on my iTunes account, or update any apps. Since doing this, the space on the phone has remained consistent and I haven’t had any ‘Storage Almost Full’ messages for many months. It’s obviously not very convenient, but it’s the best solution I have found so far.
