Storage almost Full message appearing constantly on my iPhone 4

Yes may be a stupid question BUT i can't find this anywhere online. So I need a bit of help on this.

I get a pop-up on the screen every so often ...

Storage almost Full message appearing constantly on my iPhone 4 only AFTER updating to iOS5. After update iOS5 seems to have stolen nearly a BIG chunk of my iPhone's memory/storage for itself, so had to remove a number of apps to give myself at least 700mb free. Message pop-up still appears. I then removed yet more apps - note that with the old iOS4's I never had this issue & all the apps I was removing now worked perfectly fine on the phone!

Then had over 2gb free & yet I was STILL getting the message. My iCloud is 100% free (ie 5gb available). Storage in settings/useage shows up as 2gb+ free.

So what's going on???

The pop-up states: "Storage Almost Full you can manage your storage in Settings."

I had same problem ...I had I phone 4 I bought I phone 5 (64 GB ,),because the guy at apple store said my problem was hardware and de apple technical support said was software.

I did everything what you describe ....but I discovered my problem was when I send messages ..my last alternative until did everything restore 3 times, increase I cloud storage, deleting all music and pictures.

I decided to call ATT my carrier and said to them my problem was " I can't send messages" THEY worked with my phone remotely delete all my messages and my phone is working PERFECT.I don't receive anymore the message my phone is out of space.

My recommendation call your carrier.

I bought a iPad mini 16 gig. Was getting the "Storage almost full" message after a few months. Couldn't figure out what could have eaten up the storage. so I took a look. Under the settings, storage, sure enough it showed up nearly full. Under settings, storage, there was a big file in my videos. I knew I didn't make any videos so what it turned out to be was a movie I had rented from iTunes. This took up 4.5 gigs, I deleted it . Also, with the new iPad mini I had the Apps: Garage Band, iMovie, Numbers, Keynote, Pages Apps which I deleted off. Those programs took up another 2gigs. I didn't use any of the Apple programs and in the event I ever need them I will just download them again. The Storage almost full message has now disapppeared.

End of story.

OTHER is real data.

  • email messages and attachments
  • Reminders
  • Calendar entries
  • Contacts
  • Text messages
  • MMS messages and attachments
  • Genius data
  • Music cover art
  • Operating system settings
  • Safari cache
  • bookmarks
  • Game Center status
  • Music catalog

Probably a few I've missed. Depending on how much memory your phone has, how many apps, how much music, etc, Other will typically be anything from about 0.5 GB to 3 GB. If it goes much above that you probably have data corruption. The most common cause of this corruption is interrupting a sync.

I understand that it contains real data, but there is more going on than that. I am consistently getting 11+ G of OTHER within a month and it is not because I am interrupting a sync. This is a monthly ritual that I am tired of. OTHER will take up all the remaining space, I will get a warning message and then I know it's time to restore the device. I am a heavy user of streaming music and twitter, but I doubt that destiguishes me as an atypical user.

At least Lawrence has some real answers, because even Apple Techs don't know, some of them anyhow. This has been asked many many times and they all state that they don't know what it contains or how to get rid of it, or prevent it. Mine was constantly getting upwards of 5 gb on my 16 gb device... and factory reset all the time is a pain. Backing up and restoring just restored that other folder as well.

I was frustrated as well, but no more... went back to Android, and now I no longer worry about running out of space... and can actually access my data and get rid of what I don't need. 🙂

I see that they have closed the iMessage thread that started talking about class action lawsuit, with the latest changes where you can't opt to send messages as SMS if iMessage fails.

I recently found what my problem was. The issue with my iPad mini (fully updated) was that whenever the App Store was open the disk would start filling like crazy, using a monitoring app i watched disk usage and would not see the disk being used until i opened the App Store, even after updating, the disk would not fill as much as whenever i had the App Store running.

I still don't know that the **** it is doing, but i cannot install any new app from there without screwing my storage, i have to use my computer, and its a hassle.

This has been an issue for me over the past couple months, and I finally got fed up when I couldn't sync a single playlist to my phone because of a lack of storage space. I tried everything mentioned here, from various iCloud backups to turning off Photostream, deleting emails, everything. The only thing that finally worked was restoring my phone, which was actually quite painless as everything was backed up to iCloud and went right back onto the phone as if it had never been restored in the first place. Now my whopping 7.2 GB of "Other" data is down to a reasonable 1.5 GB and I can freely sync my music again. If turning iCloud on and off doesn't work, I would suggest skipping straight to a restore to avoid wasting your time.

same problem here. on my iphone 4, 16gb with iOS 7.1.2 I have

- 3.9 GB of photos & videos

- 1.5 GB of messages

- 3.5 GB of music

- 621 MB of mail

+ other apps but not exceeding 50-90MB

still the "other" bar in iTunes goes out of scale every time I connect my phone to the PC (WinXP).
last time I deleted all the chats in whatsapp messenger, with all the images and other bulls*ts was filling my phone with data, and cleared the browser history & data... but not this time. I'm doing the iCloud backup (didn't use before), let's see if it works...
