iPhone 4s doesn't charge to 100%

I charge my new iPhone 4s over night through the wall charger. It only hits 92%, and won't charge fully. Anyone else having this issue?

iPhone 4, iOS 5

I have the same issue with my iPhone 4. But I get 93% instead of 92%.

I don't think it's dependable on brand new phones for all those saying it definitely is. I've had y iPhone 4 for 2 years now and am only just experiencing this problem. My USB cable broke from use and so ordered a new one and borrowed one from a friend in the mean time. I never had this problem before, not even when I first got my phone. It worked fine on my old charger, it worked fine on my friends 4s charger but on the new USB lead, it doesn't charge for 100%. And this is just when I've left it over night. This happens when I'm just charging it while I'm sat on my laptop. Why I have to do to get 100% charge is unplug it and plug it in again and it goes to 100% in minutes. Now while this isn't so much of an issue as I am due for an upgrade, it is still irritating that this makes no sense!

So no, it doesn't mean your phone is new and calibrating. I've never heard of batteries doing that other than the first charge. If that is the case, my 2 years new iPhone is still calibrating.

Hi, I have an iPhone 5 and I'm having issues with charging and the battery. The phone does not charge fully to get to 100% with the full charge symbol, it keeps charging and charging until I unplug it. This is wearing down my battery because it is not coming to the point when the battery is at its full charge. The battery is technically at a full charge because it is charging for over 4 hours but it keeps on charging at 100%. The phone hardware is not indicating that it has came to a full charge. I have went through multiple phones and it has had the same problem. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the software because 3 phones and a replaced battery and a new cable shouldn't all that the same problem. Any ideas?

Have you allowed it to fully drain until it shuts off totally on its own then recharged it? Leave it for about an hour and a half after it hits 100% (if it ever does) to have a full charge. If this is never done then the battery and software are not calibrated properly and will cause this to occur.

My 4s seems to work better if I turn it off then plug in cable and let it turn back on and never log it back in (its passworded). Also I close all apps beforehand too and then I have 100% in the morning. If i do not do this it will be on like 98% or so as soon as I take of off the charger. Cant figure out what is running to cause this but this process works on mine every time.

I have a very serious issue about my Iphone 4s now. When my iphone's battery has been lowest than 20%, it won't charge anymore. I plugged in my iphone with a wall charger but still can't charge fully and the battery will drop itself every 5 minutes until an Iphone shut down. After the next day morning, Iphone shown ''Iphone need to cool down'. I'm totally speechless. Who can give me a professional advice and solutions for how to solve it. It's ain't about the cable issue, I think it's all about the battery is about to death. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE!

Hello kellywong3320...i hope this helps! my spouse and I also refuse to give up our 4s's We love them. But we started having the same issue. Our problems were fixed when we got new batteries installed. And, make sure you are using certified apple chargers and cables! many of the cheapies out there, especially those sold by 7-11 chains, etc. are total garbage, even melting on me during a hot day. Hope it all works out! iPhone 4s's ROCK!! Now we just need to work on SIRI and her brother MAPS. So annoying! 🙂

Cheers!

Xx

"You are recommended to fully charge it and then let it run down to flat once a month or so to maintain an accurate calibration."

This is kind of odd, I just read an article on Tesla batteries and lifetime. I image both Lithium batteries should have similar characteristics. The article showed a longer lifetime (maintaining capacity) if the batteries were not discharged fully. Just the opposite of early NiCd batteries that had a memory effect and would decrease capacity if they were not discharged fully each cycle.
