Yesterday my friend used my iPhone 4 (black) to access his Twitter account.
After finishing his "business", he deleted his account via the Settings > Twitter > "Username" > Delete Account. The notification did not stop even after the account was deleted.

Did he sign out of the actual App?

I dont think it's possible to sign out of the actual App. When inside the App's "home page" (where you'll see the timeline, mentions, direct message etc.) there is a button on the top left <Accounts>, clicking that brings you to the page that previously had 2 accounts: mine and his. Swiping the accounts doesnt bring up the delete button (like in notes, email etc) and neither does clicking them (just brings you back to "home page". The "edit" function on the <Accounts> page only allows reordering of accounts, not a delete function.
So i assume the only way of "signing out" is to delete his account in Settings > Twitter > "Username" > Delete Account.

Thanks whoever viewed and is interested. Found a fix:
1. log in with previous account in Twitter settings
2. go to Twitter apps' "accounts" page
3. click settings on bottom left
4. edit the notifications of the previous account by switching "off" for "mentions and replies" and "message"
5. delete account in Twitter settings
DONE!
Hey! I tried to do that but the notifications still appear on my iPhone 4 running iOS5. What the **** should I do?
Have you been able to remove the Account from your iPhone? I tried it, and the account disappears, but after a while (Sometimes minutes, sometoimes hours) the whole account appears back at my iPhone. It's impossible to delete one account. How did you manage it?

This problem is ridiculous and is definitely a bug of the new iOS5 x Twitter integration. Somehow, the old account data is cached for notifications (maybe within notification center?) even when the account was deleted? This is a major security flaw.
Actually, it's also happening with Facebook for me. I have an iPad 2 which I'm passing down to my wife however now she gets notifications for all my twitter mentions & DMs and Facebooks replies, even though I removed all data relevant for my accounts. Come on, Apple!
Try to remove all notification of twitter from notification center, then restart the device and tell us if it works
Obviously you should reactivate the notification of your account after the reset of the device
it still didn't solve my issue. even though i turn of the mentions alert in the twitter app, i'm still recieving notifications..
I am having the same problem, already wrote to twitter mobile support... I've tried almost everything and nothing... still getting notifications from the deleted account... MAJOR security problem... needs to be fixed...

I am still receiving the notifications even after doing these steps? Has anyone heard back from apple on this issue? It is a big security issue and it is also quite annoying to still see these notifications from someone else's account.

I already found a solution.
- get access online using any computer.
- go to Twitter, login the signed-out account that you are receiving the notifications from.
- go to Settings, then Apps, then click on Revoke Access to iOS Apple Twitter Integration.
- you should stop receiving notif's now.
