Transfer ultraviolet digital copy dvd to iTunes, not Flixster?

Got Horrible Bosses on Blu-Ray and instead of a digital copy that downloads automatically to iTunes, they have this new "ultraviolet" digital copy that only downloads to some stupid thing called Flixster Collections, which basically tries to be like iTunes for movies, but is way ******** and less convenient.

ANYWAY, the point is, I want to watch it on iTunes. Is there a way to do it? --- I'm pretty worried the answer is no, since I googled it and came back with nothing, but I thought I'd ask ----

I am not sold on only digital copy yet.

I can't play a digital copy on my tv and get the quaility I want, I can't backup 500 movie files, there is no such thing as the $5 bargin bin,

...and I think this is the biggest. We are at the beginings of a format war similar to hd-dvd and blu-ray. Who is going to win, iTunes or UV? The music industry gave up the DRM fight and now any song you get anywhere will play on any music device both now and in the future. I bet you 10 to 1 that the iPod/iPhone will not be the most popular platform for music in 10 years, but when that happens the music I already own will work on that device. As long as Apple/Amazon/UV/ and who ever do not have a common file type that all devices can play, then the war goes on.

First off thank you to Arkling for letting us know how to get an iTunes code.

I bought Crazy, Stupid, Love a while back and was never able to get an iTunes code until I read Arklings directions. I opened and ticket and unlike other I didn't get a code right away but I'm being mailed a code. I'll take what I can get espcially since I didn't have my original UV code.

I need help though, I recently bought New Years Eve (not realizing that it was a UV digital copy). I opened a ticket at the same time as I did for Crazy, Stupid, Love and they won't get me an iTunes code. This is the response I keep getting back from Flixter/UV "Unfortunately, iTunes is not avaiable for this particular offer" Does anyone have an idea or suggestion on how to get around this? I even sent them the response I got from my other ticket saying they are mailing me a code.

HELP PLEASE!!!

I think it is only a matter of time before UV stops giving out codes and sending disks. They are putting lables in fine print that it is not compatible with iTunes. No matter how powerfull Apple is I think they are going to loose this format war and we are all eventually never going to be able to get a physical file or copy again. We will end up purchasing the rights to watch the movie.

The problem is the codes are not working for Ultraviolet/Flixster.

It's not only that people want it in iTunes.

Not necessarily disagreeing with you, but why do you think this?

What's gonna take its place?

Right now it surely isn't Ultraviolet/Flixster (as evidenced by this thread).

UV is a collaberation between the majority of the studios in Hollywood. Hollywood has already stopped giving iTunes codes with their movies. What is to stop them from not renewing the license agreement with Apple and just flat out not letting them sell movies in iTunes at all any more? There are only two real players in town any more. UV (which Amazon joined) and Apple.

On the other hand, all Apple has to do is just not offer the UV app for their devices. But Apple went down that road before 30+ years ago with their first home computers and it almost killed them while the IBM based PC thrived because it was a more open system.

Either way, Hollywood owns the content and can eventually dictate to anyone what to do with that content.

In a litteral and legal sense you are absolutly correct, but for practical purposes "money" would be the deciding factor of what to do with the content.

If more people were complaining to the studios, and asking for iTunes copies, and also putting their money where there mouth is (that is to say, to stop buying products that don't support their media preference) Then the studios would still provide it, because they wouldn't want to lose all of their revenue. The key is, that consumers need to be a squeeky wheel for what they want and not just let the studios drive wherever they want. In a very litteral sense we get to vote what we like or don't like with our money, if you don't like how something is being done then make a complaint so the studfios know want, then if they don't offer what you want, don't give them your money.

Economics at its finest. What people seam to always forget is that the all mighty dollar and preference is what drives the economy. Why should I change my preference for media to a format or delivery method that is not as superior to Apple's way, just because the other firms are having a "fit" over not making enough money from them? What will quickly happen is the loss in revenues from sales the media giant Apple can provide due to the simple and ease of use nature they provide.

This brings back memories of other companies try at taking over iTunes with their own version of the music playing device and service.

Unless UV is going to provide a far superior service than Apple's, I do not forsee myself changing anytime soon. Who knows, it may occur, but only time will tell if they are willing and able to provide at the price that the market demanders are willing to purchase it at.

I responded informing them saying that it was a waste of money and resources to send a physical disc, and that I wasn't 100% comfortable doing so, and wasting the next 2-3 weeks waiting to receive a digital copy in the mail that I bought weeks ago is compltely ridiculous. Why can't they just send me a digital code like that have so many others. This is such a waste of time, add that to the fact it doesn't take 2-3 weeks to get anythign in the mail anymore, unless their shipping dept *****, which I imagine it does. I know a few others have gotten this same response, anyone received their discs yet?

May 8, 2012 1:17 PM in response to marisa from salinas

Agreed, in a consumer economy the dollar wins but I think we are in the beginins of a format war between Apple and Hollywood. With UV, Hollywood gets all the money and doesn't have to share it with Apple and can simply not allow them to sell their product. Personally don't understand why anyone would want to stream that much especially with the cost of data plans and home internet costs going on. Comcast is already starting to slow down the rate of transmission for video. The quality of streaming is not any good. Until we have a clear winner I am going to continue to continue to buy the disks. I am just not going to buy them with UV or wait until the price of the disk drops.

May 8, 2012 7:21 PM in response to Jerm99

We will end up purchasing the rights to watch the movie.

As long as the movie is "still available" for sale and is not censored to the point where you no longer want to watch it.

For example, despite public pressure for a release, the Disney movie “Song of the South” remains banned. Even cartoons like Johnny Quest are now censored. Only people who purchased physical copies years ago have them as they were originally produced.

There is good news coming!

Technology experts are working on a movie storage system where YOU have physical possession of the movie.

This system stores the movie digitally on an optical disk system that will not be dependent upon a congested, complicated, and fragile network.

Because all of the data is stored only a few feet from your television, all the bottlenecks are removed. Performance and reliability are virtually flawless.

Further, the system will not utilize any form of security codes, authentications, or passwords. Once the optical disc is purchased it can be moved around freely at will, and can even be lent or given to friends and neighbors with zero hassles.

Policy is clearly on the change at Flixster... I got Sherlock Holmes A Game of Shadows yesterday not knowing anything about UltraViolet, but I found out pretty quickly and used the advice to try to get an iTunes code.

The replies I got back from Flixter were less than helpful though, all 3 seem to be standard emails.

The first... Thanks for being one of the first, we appreciate your interest but iTunes is currently not compatible.

The second... Thankyou for your enquiry but we're unable to give you an iTunes code for this product.

The third... Sorry for your difficulties. Come back and check our products soon.

This basically tells me that they don't care. It's almost like selling me a DVD and then telling me "tough luck" when I find it will only play in a Panasonic when I own a Sony.

Sorry to say this but from now on its just better to buy the movies from wb in iTunes you still get full hd and you don't have to worry about this hassle I think wb ceased with digital copies as of the release of contagion and I can almost be sure the days of wb and physical or downloadable digital copies are over cause they are still stuck thinking flixster is the way to go and its not *** for them

May 15, 2012 8:22 AM in response to samuel_271

Wouldn't it be good if that were true. Granted, the free iTunes download is generally SD but I get a Blu Ray that I can watch on my big screen. In the case if the movie I just got it's only available in HD on iTunes if you rent it, if it was HD to purchase from the get go I'd have no hesitation in doing so but as it stands the "buy" version is SD only.

At this point though I'm not going to spend any more money on any WB product until they change their policy. It ***** because I really want to see the new Dark Knight but I'm not even going to buy a cinema ticket, I'll be waiting until it comes on to one of my satellite movie channels before I watch it.

It it any wonder that people are still turning to illegal downloads?

Jun 6, 2012 1:53 PM in response to bailey#70

i've just bought Sherlock Holmes 2 A game of shadows; Triple Play. From Play.com

I have a BluRay a DVD and Ultraviolet digital copy which is of no use to me at all, the point of getting a digital copy for me is to be able to chuck it in itunes and sync it to my ipod classic to watch on the coach.

after almost in hour on with flixster support im unable to do anything, the support dept arent able or willing to provide me any form of solution or itunes code for an itunes download.

i've just wasted £15 on a bluray with a digital copy i cant use. fair enough i will use the bluray and the dvd but this new format ***** and i really hope

1. it fails. big time.

2. none of the other companies take it up.

as was said previously its no wonder that people are downloading illegal digital copies of this and other movies.
