Why iPhone does not sync play count anymore?

After upgrading to iOS 5 my iPhone does not sync play count anymore back to iTunes. This is very annoying. Anyone has an idea what to do?

(It's in manual mode, no automated syncing with some playlist etc. And it *always* was that way, and play count was happily synced back to iTunes both with iOS 3 and iOS 4...)

Don't listen to those that are saying that you can't sync if you're in manual mode. I had exactly the same problem while running iOS7 on iPhone5 with manual library.

I noticed play counts on iPhone (my main listening device) weren't transferring to my iTunes library.

I logged into iTunes with my main iTunes account and password, the same one I had on my phone.

I logged into HomeSharing with my main iTunes account and password, the same one I had on my phone.

Then I authorized the computer to transfer purchases etc.

I clicked on my iPhone from the right corner tab

Then I clicked on BACK UP NOW.

Next I know all counts are transferred.

Not exactly sure what did it, but I do know problem IS solved... :-)
