My iPhone 4s 64gb is working fine on 5.0.1 with the Microcell - in fact no complants at all. IT used to drop me on my iphone 4 when I backed out of the driveway, now it does not even drop the call. On occasion I need to try the call a 2nd time as it says call failed - but this occurs very rarely.
I'm glad this process worked for you. Despite my doubts, I repeated your steps to no avail. I've now removed/re-activated my Microcell twice over the course of the troubleshooting, as well as factory reset my phone, and re-installed the SIM card as you suggested. It does seem to work initially about at some point later in the day, I see "Searching".
This really *****, I stay at a cabin on the weekends where I have great High Speed Internet, but zero ATT coverage. I really hope that Apple is working on a fix.
Having the same issue. Spent hours on the phone with AT&T and apple. I have done everything, restored iOS, replaced sim card, removed and reinstalled microcell, been to the AT&T store and the genius bar. Apple says that it is an AT&T issue and there is an open ticket. AT&T says it is an apple issue and they can't do anything about it. Finally i apoke to an apple tech who was honest enough to admit that both are aware of the issue and the only option is to wait for one of them to fix it.
has anyone got anything new to report as regards interactions either att or apple?
i think we are all clear now that there is actually an issue with the "searching..." display though the iphones with ios 5 still make and receive calls on the microcell.
i'm no engineer. but i do find it interesting that, according to the recent cnet revew of the iphone 4s, there's info about the twin antennas and the added functionality of the ios looking for alternate signal towers so that the second antenna can move quickly to it. could it be that the ios 5.0 (even on the iphone4 without 2 antennas) is looking for multiple signals in a new way, which ends up with the much more frequest "searching..." message?
i wish someone from apple would jump into this conversation or at lease look at this possibility or talk to att about the possibility of this conflict.
I too get "searching", but as soon as I make a call M-Cell replacing the "searching" and quickly builds from a single signal bar to 5 bars. I suspect there is some sort of standby / power management going on. So it seems more like a "cosmetic" rather than a "functional"
problem.
Yes, your phone will suddenly "snap out of it" when you're placing a call, but any incoming calls go straight to voicemail. So, unless you don't anticipate getting any outside calls, it's most definitely functional.
I hear Apple has acknowledged the problem and is working on a fix for an iOS update. Don't forget your grain of salt.
I have same problem on my iphone 5 (ios5). I find that cycling the power on my iphone will fix the problem for the day. Hope this helps someone....
Sorry. Should have been iphone4, not 5.
I certainly hope they fix this soon. Unaware of this issue we just purchased a new (2nd) microcell and neither my 4 or my wife's 3GS can connect to it. We never had a problem connecting to my daughter's microcell (also on my account) but that was before we upgraded to iOS5.
I'm really surprised that neither Apple nor ATT have officially acknowledged this issue yet. It makes me worried that a fix is not coming anytime soon.
I finally had to sign up for Line2 so that I could forward my iPhone number to a Line2 number when at home so that I can recieve calls.
I may try to get AT&T to take back the Microcell and give me a refund if this doesn't get fixed soon. It's worthless to me in its current state.
I'm downloading iOS 5.1 now. I'll post the results. Would be very happy if it FINALLY fixed this issue.
Thanks for thinking of the larger group. I hope the 5.1 download fixes the microcell problem. please let us know asap since there appears to be a number of apple apps that now have updates based on 5.1. but i don't want to do 5.1 until we know if the microcell is better or, at the least, no worse than with 5.01.
It didn't fix it for me. I hope you had better luck.
Unfortunately, same here. No change. Frequent "no signal". Occasionally get linked, but not for long.
Time to call Apple Support again.
