White screen!! beeping noise!! ipod doesnt work!!!HELP!!

Ok i just got my new ipod 30gb three days a go and i tryed to update it yesterday. while i was updating it says right before its over to no disconnect whhile it updates. and you know what happens, my ipod freezes. i tried to disconnect it and restart it with the menu and center buttons. and all other restart options. my ipod screen goes white and makes a beeping noise. i called apple and they couldnt help me. does anyone else have this problem. and i checkd to see if it was my computer but its not. nothing was wrong with the computer. does anyone think i should return it or is there a way to fix it. i would really like to know.
