Can no longer play movies via home sharing on Apple TV 2

I'm having trouble sharing movies via iTunes through home sharing. Everything I have is Mac, a 2008 iMac, Airport Extreme, (2) Apple TV 2's, and a Macbook Pro. Everything was fine with this entire setup with all of the movies I've ripped (using the Apple TV 2 settings in Handbrake) until Lion came out. Suddenly I got the 'Content cannot be displayed. Try again later' error message. After much searching, I found that disabling IPv6 was a good solution, temporarily, that is until Apple released iOS 5. I updated the ATV2's, iPhone, and iPad, and iMac with everything that came out during the update, and the issue came back.

I've tried everything I can think of, changing router channels, disabling IPv6 everywhere I saw it, wireless, hardwired, reloading the library, disabling the firewall, countless restarts of all my equipement etc. All of these movies worked perfectly before the updates, and suddenly I cant stream anything through my local MAC network.

Has anyone else seen this? Has anyone found any solutions for this problem? I could really use the help, Apple support is... limited.

Same here. No video works. Audio's fine—video is a no-go via Home Sharing (both bought off iTunes and not) or Purchased TV Shows. The wife and I were looking forward to catching up on Always Sunny and Parks & Rec tonight, but they won't play. 😢

It resolved itself I think. I did bring down the screensaver to 2 min delay, but that came on and off a few times during the spinning and I'm not sure it had anything to do with the movie finally starting (tree of life).

I have the same problem, after the update, movies were working fine for a while, then all of a sudden, playing movies from the Apple TV in my library just give a spinning wheel for a really long time and the movie may eventually play.

However if I stream from iTunes on my iMac to the Apple TV it streams instantly. Something's not right here.

Another unhappy AppleTV 2 user...did the updates and now my videos won't stream, I have movies that I've ripped with Handbrake and some digital ones that came with the BluRay purchase, nothing works. Just that spinning circle wheel, please fix this! My 2 year old has to have his Toy Story fixes every hour.

Can't watch the TV shows using apple TV either. I have been able to watch them only if I use the controls on my Computer' itunes and change the settings to apple TV

Ridiculous. I love my apple tv but I am having the exact same problem. No video streaming. This effectively ruined our Friday night.

A temporary solution since it is obvious a software issue with Apple. I use AirPlay to send the movie I am playing to my Apple TV. This obvious doesn't do you any good to play it on multiple Apple TV's at the same time but one at a time movies will actually load this way.

Hope this works as a temporary fix for you all until apple gets their **** together!!!!

Add me to the list. Sits forever on the spinning gear for movies and tv shows. Sometimes after 10 min it will start, but not usually.

After the update it took four minutes to start a movie . . . before the update it took about 30 seconds.

Once it got rolling it filled the buffer pretty quickly,

UPDATE: Signed out of the iTunes store and now TV and Movies start instantly!!

Same problem here. If you sign out of your iTunes account on ATV2 your movies will load up normally. Something seems to be wrong with the iTunes store.

it still does not work. the only temporary work around is to airplay from mac to atv. so frustrating. it has not work proparly for months now.

Why did i update? I should have known better. The spinning wheel is hypnotic but not entertaining.
