Can no longer play movies via home sharing on Apple TV 2

I'm having trouble sharing movies via iTunes through home sharing. Everything I have is Mac, a 2008 iMac, Airport Extreme, (2) Apple TV 2's, and a Macbook Pro. Everything was fine with this entire setup with all of the movies I've ripped (using the Apple TV 2 settings in Handbrake) until Lion came out. Suddenly I got the 'Content cannot be displayed. Try again later' error message. After much searching, I found that disabling IPv6 was a good solution, temporarily, that is until Apple released iOS 5. I updated the ATV2's, iPhone, and iPad, and iMac with everything that came out during the update, and the issue came back.

I've tried everything I can think of, changing router channels, disabling IPv6 everywhere I saw it, wireless, hardwired, reloading the library, disabling the firewall, countless restarts of all my equipement etc. All of these movies worked perfectly before the updates, and suddenly I cant stream anything through my local MAC network.

Has anyone else seen this? Has anyone found any solutions for this problem? I could really use the help, Apple support is... limited.

No kidding, but I have not been burned by an update from apple on any device for years, so I guess I got sloppy. I have been playing both iTunes Store TV shows and movies (both rentals and purchases), no problem, for many weeks, as well as streaming from my iTunes library on my Mac, and it all suddenly broke after I updated the AppleTVv2 to the latest software (a few days ago). Music is fine, but video gives me the spinning cursor. Other computers can stream the movies fine, it is just the appleTV. If I wait long enough (5-10 minutes?) when seeing the spinning wheel, it seems to eventually continue and then plays fine.

I'll try logging out of the store to see if that fixes it (I usually buy on the Mac anyway, then stream to the appleTV), although that *****.

Add me to the list of disgruntled ATV owners. Foolishly updated the software before watching a movie tonight, and then nothing would play. Just spins and spins and spins. After maybe 10 or 20 minutes, it would finally play. Ultimately played the movie via iTunes on my computer and then sent it to the ATV. That streamed immediately. Something isn't right with this update, Apple. Please fix!!!

BTW, signing out of the iTunes Store in the ATV Settings solved the problem for me. Thanks to whomever posted that solution.

Same problem here, I just get the spinning wheel. I don't have access to the ATV right now, so can't attempt the iTunes Store logout fix, but will do so when I get home.

Just trying to narrow this issue down though. I noticed that this issue didn't start directly after updating to the latest ATV software (4.4.2). I had no issues after the update itself (watched a movie and a couple TV shows after the update without issue) — I only noticed the issue after running software update on my Mac yesterday and installing the latest iPhoto update. Normally I wouldn't think an iPhoto update would have anything to do with playing video on ATV, but the iPhoto update addressed issues with video playback and codec support, and I wonder if something in this update messed up streaming in iTunes? I know it's a long shot, and highly unlikely, but just wondering if anyone else experienced this (ie. fine after the ATV update, but broken after the iPhoto update). Again, a long shot, but you never know?

I submitted a message to Apple last night. But I did try the fix people have been talking about on here – signing out of the itunes store. What I hadn't seen in the messages I was getting back was whether you could sign back in to the itunes store and when you went back to do the home sharing if it would break it again.

Logged out, tried a home share stream and it was fixed. Logged back in the to the itunes store and the home sharing still worked.

Odd that we had to figure this out itself but I HOPE this means those of us who do this, have it fixed.
