Is anyone experiencing springboard crashes on the 4S?

I get about 3-5 springboard crashes per day on my iPhone 4S and NEVER had this issue on my iPhone 4 running IOS 5. What happens is at random times throughout the day, the screen goes black, the little sprocket starts to spin (just as it does when you power off the phone) and a few seconds later, I return to my pass lock screen.

Here is what is ANNOYING!!! When I am on a call when this happens, I temporary can't hear any handset conversation from the person on the other end until the sequence I explaned above has been completed. At that time, I can then hear my party speaking again. Went to the genius bar and they ran a few tests. Told me the music player, springboard, and mobileme were causing issues with my phone. Yeah apple, no kidding! They told me to erase all content and setup my phone as a new device, which I was reluctant to do but I did it anyways. Needless to say, the problem still exists! Frustrating..

Scott,

I think It's heavily related to iOS.

I had the same identical problem when I installed the Betas of iOS 5 into my iPod and iPhone 4 and, strangely enough, at night or when the battery would heat up a lot, the Springboard would crash every 2/3 minutes for 10 minutes straight and then go to normal without issues and crashes.

I bought the new iPhone 4S and I was hoping no issues whatsoever but, after 2 days of no problems, the Springboard's crashes started again and last night reached an all time high when I experienced over 30 crashes within 15/20 minutes.

Fed up, I completely reset the iPhone, connected to iTunes, restored iOS 5 straight from iTunes, setup the iPhone as new and then restored my backup.

After that, only 1 Springboard crash happened but I'll wait to see tonight as, like I previously said, Springboard seems to have issues at night.

I have a funny feeling though that it's related to some application which is not yet iOS compatible and Springboard is reacting accordingly. Cannot seem to pinpoint the guilty app though as the crashes seem to happen when I read/write emails, use the Facebook App or Textie or HeyWire and so forth.

I think there is a nasty bug within Springboard.

I'm having the same thing happen on my iPhone 4. I ran into major issues updating to iOS 5 in the first place, and was lucky enough to be able to save my data through a "back door". Anyway, at random, my phone will start jumping through this process as well. It'll be sitting on the table, or on my desk, flash on to a black screen, then the white sprocket comes up, and eventually ends up at the unlock screen. It will do this repeatedly until I hold down the power button and home buttons to reset it. Then it's OK for a "while". Yesterday it only did it at 11pm or so. But that's bad, because it resets my alarms, and I've been late to work! Bad thing is that mine is out of warranty now. Glad to see too though, that I'm not the only one experiencing this problem. I keep going through and closing all my apps when I'm done with them, to see if this helps or not. If someone finds a solution, I'd love to hear it!! When I get home tonight, I'm going to try the "set up as new" option. Just HATE to risk losing data!!

I have the same problem. I was just sitting here at work with my 4S on the desk next to me when I saw the screen turn on and then immediately go black with the spinning sprocket. A few seconds later it came back on and seems to be fine. I used AppSwitch (http://itunes.apple.com/app/appswitch/id398317469?mt=8) to view the console log and found that SpringBoard had crashed. When I unlocked my phone, it went directly into a calendar invite, so I think it was about to display a notification when it crashed.

FYI...

Per my post, doesn't matter if it's iPad 2, iPhone 4, or iPhone 4S. SpringBoard crashes all around after upgrading to iOS 5, and not a SINGLE problem before that.

FYI...

For me, I noticed that the SpringBoard crashes in series at the SAME TIMES EVERY DAY. Shortly after 12pm and 12am for sure, because the 12am random crashes between 12am and 1am wake me and my wife up every night. She's not happy about it at all!!!

There are other instances where I'm streaming media from my iPad around 9:00-9:30pm and notice the exact same crashes.

But all around every device crashes between the 12-1am/pm times every single day. Not sure what it's doing at that time, but who know.

I got the 4S when it was released and have had no problems with it until 2 days ago. I, too, am getting many, many springboard crashes. It happens when I open an app, and it happens about 5 or 6 times a day. I've rebooted the phone, re-synced it, and all that stuff. There have been no significant changes to anything (like wi-fi or itunes). It just started happening out of nowhere. Very strange - hope to see an update or fix soon. If I see anything worthwhile on how to fix it, I will come back and share. Cheers.
