What is "Other" on the iPad's Storage (iOS 5)?

This indicates corrupt files. You will need to restore.
Yes.
A restore should resolve.
Other is typically less than 1 GB.
Restore on the iPad did solve the problem. Thanks for that. Still wondering, though, what the "other" is on my MBP's hard drive...
Restoring only fixes this for a short time, I have had to restore twice now and I am still getting this problem.
My other is 27Gb and I cannot put anything else on my Ipad even though the ipad itself shows the correct free space.
I restored last night because it used to work.
I now have even more "other files" ! 😮
up to 1.26 gigs now.
I need to get rid of these stinkin files
This appears to be some kind of phantom file left behind after you delete files when syncing using iCloud. I just plugged in my USB cable from my computer to my iPad2 and turned it off and back on and they are gone.
yeah i had that same problme with "other" i just turned my pad off and turned it back on agian and the "other" was gone good adivce !!!!!! 🙂🙂😁
I had the same thing happen right after an upgrade to iOS5. 8.2G of "other".
I expected better from Apple. Sounds like something you'd expect from Microsoft.
I don't want to have to restore. Just fix it right the first time as it is clearly a known bug.
If I restore, does this wipe all the apps, etc, and I have to reload? I don't want to loose data from a couple of games I have on my iPad. Maybe I'll just delete what I don't 'need' and keep the games and try syncing to fix it. I HATE THIS PROBLEM! Basically I have 1/2 the capacity of my 64GB. What a waste!

First Try a Restore from Backup... But... if the Large Other Persists, that is an Indicator of Corrupt Data in the Backup... Then a Restore as New is the way to go...
Backing up, Updating and Restoring
Thanks for that. I did bite the bullet and did a system restore and all "other" has reduced and apps kept their data. At least I know now that that will solve the problem.
cheers.

You're Welcome.
Has anyone else found a useful PERMANENT solution to this? I'm on my 4th time with this junk. I go to sync a new movie and unsync an old one, and every other time I'm left with not enough space due this issue.
Please Apple, you've got BILLIONS. Hire a 'brain bug' that can fix this. Pretty please?
Alright this problem occured when I was syncing my digital copies. What happened was, during the sync I saw a movie I had forgot to check. After I checked and hit sync (This is happening during a sync in progress.). It asked me do you want to restart the sync, and I said yes. After I did this I ran out of space when I should of had 15 gigabytes to spare. What im guessing is that iTunes and the device maybee create a temp file but doesn't delete it in error or some other anomaly. So I took off all 28 digital copies synced it without movies. Then I restarted it from the adviced given before in this forum (By the way thanks alot Apple user blue44). Low and behold fixed wallah. Now just waiting on the movies to resync. I would try this method before restoring of any kind worked perfectly for me.
Hope this helps.
