Changing the 'Finder' Icon

That really helped. I've asked this question many times and I'm really happy I got it resolved.

Again, I'm sorry for sort of butting on the originals OP's post, but it seemed that we were on a role and I thought I might finally get my question answered.

Everyone, I have read through many of the forums, changed all of the necessary .icns files, etc. and even used candybar but the stubborn finder icon in the dock will NOT change. Every other icon has changed but that one. (except trashcan) If I place another copy of finder on the dock it displays the new icon but I can't change the original finder icon or remove it from the dock. I have read a million forums and can't figure it out. Help pleeaassee!!

Candy Bar worked fine for me, changing the Finder icon was one of the first things I did with it.

Check their web site for support, even if they didn't cause the problem they might know how to fix it.

I tried using CandyBar (the latest version available). all my icons change, not when the program asks me whether or not to restart the dock and then the finder, but only when i reboot. Secondly, even after rebooting, it does not change the finder icon at all, even after i go into the resources from the contents folder, and in addition, the trash icon is the standard icon until i trash an item, and empty it again.

any suggestions?

you could always stick a small piece of opaque tape on your display over the area where the finder icon in your dock appears.

in all seriousness though, i changed mine manually and with Candybar, restarted and it worked, perhaps it's a permissions issue?

I am the administrator of the account, so i think i might be doing something else wrong. I am not at my computer now, however, i had emailed Panic and they sent me an email saying that there was a bug in the 2.6 version, and sent me a link to ver2.6.1, but now i cant remember if i actually have 2.6.1 or the first version.... ill keep u guys posted, and thank you for your help.

As stated previously, yes, relaunching the Finder is key to having the new icon show up.

Look for support on Candy Bar's site. Mine works fine with none of those problems.

Yes, repairing permissions would be a good idea, as well as running disk repair from the install disk. Or even running Rebuild Launch Services database and deleting caches from Cocktail.

I updated to CandyBar 2.6.1 and that seems to be working for me...
