iPhone 4S will not autoconnect in car

This is very annoying. My iPhone 4S will not autoconnect to my cars Bluetooth while my iPhone 4 would autoconnect with no issues. To clarify my iPhone 4 (CDMA) has had every beta build including iOS5 GM and it never had any Bluetooth issues. I understand that Bluetooth 4.0 was introduced, but why would this affect the autoconnect? The 4S will connect if I manually connect it under Bluetooth settings, but this is not something I should ever need to do especially when I paid a premium to own a 4S.

When my iPhone 4s would not connect to my Toyota Tacoma, I read all the possible remedys here. No single remedy worked, but a combination of things finally made it work. First I deleted all previous phones (I bought it useed and it still had other users listed). Then I deleted the Audio BT (even though my phone wouldn't work, my iPhone audio had worked right away). Then I ran the settup for the BT phone connection again and it worked! After that the audio BT also came back automatically.

My problem is that the Bluetooth stopped working. It worked okay at first. I have a Honda CRV and this phone was the only one ever linked. My problem is with my phone, not my car. The connection would always drop and reset, even from the beginning. And then it got so I would have to either turn the Bluetooth function off and on or turn the phone off and on in order to connect. I recently upgraded the software, hoping it would fix the Bluetooth problem, but now my Bluetooth on/off slider is just a spinning cog. I can't do anything with it. Will this function work with the iphone 5 or do I need to switch phone brands entirely?

I think you should switch phone brands. It will be enlightening when you discover that other phone brands have issues also.

Alternatively, you can try standard diagnostic techniques to fix your problem, and if they don't work take the phone to Apple for a replacement of your defective phone.

Start by restoring the phone as New without reloading your backup. If the problem exists on a phone that has not been configured at all then you have a hardware problem. If the problem is gone there was corrupt data on your phone.

You're right. I've been a pretty loyal iphone owner (this is my third) so I don't know if other phones have issues. I just don't want to jump into an iphone 5 if it has the same problem. I don't need a lot of features - phone, camera, songs - but the Bluetooth is important. So far no amount of resetting of the phone or its settings or new software has helped. I'll try wiping it clean this evening, although if it's in my personal data, that's another HUGE problem. Thanks for your input.

On my 2012 subaru legacy I had the same problem. I just fixed it today. I renamed the phone which didn't help. So I went into the Bluetooth menu on the car and went to setup. Then I selected initialize system which reset the whole Bluetooth. I had to reprogram the phone entries but now it auto connects each time. Hope this helps others with a subaru

I also had been putting up with no autoconnect with an iPhone 4 in my MY12 WRX (Aus) for nearly 2 years now, My previous phone, a Nokia E6-00 would connect everytime automatically, I did as others have suggested and got into the setup menu and found the nokia still appeared on the list, even though I had deleted that pairing some time ago, used voice method to pair the iPhone and it works everytime now.
