i don't know if everyone experiences this but, does iOS 5 lag on your device? especially on the iPod Touch 4?

Yes, it's really noticeable when you turn it off. The shutter sound sometimes takes a second or two before you hear it.

The only reason I even purchased an iPod touch was because there are more apps for ops devices, I did use one before ios5 came about, and this is garbage. I'll never buy another apple product again if this isn't fixed. I mean that because I was reluctant about getting this in the first place not to mention their business ethics leave much to be desired.

most of the lag have seen deals with the stock apps. as JWAeroman mentions, unlocking the iPod when the music app is open takes about 4-5 seconds. The camera app lags pretty terribly. Safari takes about 5 seconds to show the keyboard when i tap on the search field / url field.

i don't play infinity blade, but i have noticed that most third party apps run pretty smoothly once they are opened. (with the exception of ad supported apps...)

It seems that the problem is in the core OS... the stock apps & home screen...

Well, it seems like I may have to eat my words from my previous post.

I called Apple to explain (complain) my problem. The tech, Scott, was very professional and understanding in light of how upset I was. He educated me on a little known (at least to me) fact about the newer iPod Touch compared to the older one I was used to. I had heard the newer ones were capable of multitasking, but I didn't realize the RAMifications of that little feature.

He had me double-click the home button at which point a menu not unlike the dock on a desktop/laptop Mac popped up at the bottom of the iPod screen. He explained that every time I used an application, it went into this "tray" and stayed active (tying up valuable RAM). The only way to free up the RAM was to access this menu, then press and hold your finger on one of the active applications in the tray. After a few seconds, the items in the tray will begin to do a Chihuahua like wiggle with a minus sign hovering over them. Simply click on the minus sign, and the application will shut off, thus freeing up RAM. You have to do this one by one. I had about a dozen apps running.

I asked if this process was expedited by shutting off the iPod or resetting it via holding down the home button & power button simultaneously. He told me "no". You have to manually go in and shut off the active applications.

I hope this helps everyone else who seems to be having this problem. My iPod is running great with no apparent issues. I apologize to Apple and to anyone else who may have already stated this fix action and I missed it.

Great post JWAeroman. I also thought double clicking the home button and killing off every item in the bottom tray and restarting would be the solution but it isn't. Seems the device can only hold open 2 apps at a time for multitasking anyway. I always keep 1gb spare on my 8gb iPod Touch and frequently clear cache / history in Safari and anything in the double-click home button tray thing and my device still freezes and suffers from lag.

4-5 secs of waiting is bad UXD on such an awesome product.
