Too many people having the same problem - iPhone 4S not connecting or dropping connections on wifi. One shouldn't have to purchase a new router, or "fix" the router to work with the phone if it is working with everything else fine. There is a reason the default on a router is "automatic" - the phone should be smart enough to find the channel, not the other way around.
I have the same issue at home and at work (a community college) - the wifi won't connect (or freezes the connection), I re-boot the phone and it does or I shut the wireless off and on and it connects, etc. Shouldn't need manual intervention to connect. Now with limited data plans could become an even bigger issues when the phone can't/won't connect to wifi and data downloads hit the 3G/4G service instead. A conspiracy?
It would be nice if Apple would confirm there is a problem and say it will be fixed in a patch, or that they can not replicate the issue. Either way, thousands of people and multiple forums can't be all wrong..
Please help.
Thanks
