Hi everyone. I'd like to ask all on this thread that have wifi problem on iPhone 4S if you are using Skype. I just found out that it is the app that causes wifi dropping the moment you use it and keep on background. Just delete it and don't use until it's updated.

I got my iPhone 4S exchanged at Apple Store twice and i can't believe that they exhibit the same problem on all 3 units i had. Now, after deleting Skype and restoring/reboot my iPhone 4S (iOS 5.0.1), everything's fine.

Hope this helps and all here will not be wasting their time doing all reset, change routers, turning on-off etc.

I had the same problem you guys have. After doing EVERYTHING: rebooting, going to apple store to change the phone, reseting my phone, getting VERY frustrated, I went to You tube and I listened to this guy who said to change the channel from automatic to 6 and it works! I have an airport extreme, so for those with Airport Extreme, please try it. I am so happy!!!!

I have a similar issue. My iPhone 4S worked fine for a month. Between my wife and myself, we have 2 ipads, a nook and 2 iPhone 4S's. Every device except for my iPhone easily connects to my wireless Verizon router. I cannot and have tried everything including 2 calls to Apple and Verizon. I aslso have a mifi card. I can connect to that only after a reset and as long as I don't try to connect to my Verizon router. Once I try to connect to my router, it blows out the mifi connection and I have to reset. The message always is -- Unable to connect to network [name of network]. HELP

Too many people having the same problem - iPhone 4S not connecting or dropping connections on wifi. One shouldn't have to purchase a new router, or "fix" the router to work with the phone if it is working with everything else fine. There is a reason the default on a router is "automatic" - the phone should be smart enough to find the channel, not the other way around.

I have the same issue at home and at work (a community college) - the wifi won't connect (or freezes the connection), I re-boot the phone and it does or I shut the wireless off and on and it connects, etc. Shouldn't need manual intervention to connect. Now with limited data plans could become an even bigger issues when the phone can't/won't connect to wifi and data downloads hit the 3G/4G service instead. A conspiracy?

It would be nice if Apple would confirm there is a problem and say it will be fixed in a patch, or that they can not replicate the issue. Either way, thousands of people and multiple forums can't be all wrong..

Please help.

Thanks

Wifi problem iPhone 4S on home network. Worked fine for a couple of months, then problem developed. Have Time Capsule router and Airport Express booster. iPad2 wifi works perfectly in same setting. iPhone4S will locate and hold wifi when I am very close to Time Capsule, but not when I am very near Airport Express and not elsewhere in the house. Have tried shutting off wifi and then on again, also tried powering off and then on again. Software is up to date, but I haven't fiddled with the router settings. Should I? I use my iPad in the house more than my iPhone, so I don't want to disturb what is working well. Suggestions appreciated.

In my case, the fix appears to be a newly-available firmware update to Time Capsule and Airport Express. I opened the Airport Utility app on my iPad2, and both icons (Time Capsule and Airport Express) showed new updates available. When I installed them, my iPhone 4S magically was able again to get and retain a wifi connection, even in the far reaches of my house. The firmware update is 7.6.1. So far working perfectly. Hope this works for others. Note, I did not have to alter any router settings, just install the update.

Like most of you, *at home* my iPhone 4S had full WiFi connection but no internet. I could sync apps via WiFi (like iTunes and Things), but I could not get any internet apps to work. (It all worked fine at work and at WiFi hot spots.) So, I took one of my two AirPort Express Base Stations from other areas of my home and plugged it into the internet cable at my iMac. Now, I have no AirTunes in my living room (until I buy a new AEBS), but I DO now have internet on my iPhone at home! (The AirPort Express Base Station must be plugged into the internet connection.) I hope my solution might work for others. Good luck.

OT:

In the past couple weeks, I've lost *telephone* service! In this latest challenge, I've found that I simply (I say "simply" but doing anything special to make this thing work normally is unacceptable) need to go into Settings : General : Network, and turn off/turn on "Cellular Data". It seems to reset the signal. I even had AT&T on the phone for over an hour troubleshooting this challenge and their answer was to send a tech to my area to inspect the towers.

Good luck, everybody.

After calling Verizon Wireless and discussing the problem, they replaced the handset with a new iPhone 4S. The new phone works perfectly. If you are having this problem, I suggest a call first to Apple support to see if the problem can be fixed. They will have you change settings in the router including WEP to WEP2, SSID and password. When this doesn't work, they will get you to a senior advisor. Having told Verizon the failed steps I went to in order to get the wi-fi back, they replaced the phone.
