syncdefaultsd wants to use the login keychain

Hi all

Worryingly a google search for "syncdefaultsd" gets about 4 entries. I get syncdefaultsd, Mail, PhotoStreamAgent all wanting access ot the login keychain. If I say OK, I enter the password, and all is fine for a decent amount of time (maybe til next reboot or 24hrs?). If I say cancel, it'll come up again right away, but another cancel seems to dismiss for, agin, about 24hrs. I assume though, that something which should be syncing is not syncing as a result of me canceling.

Only been happening since I upgraded Lion to iCloud version last week. Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

I get exactly the same problem after sleeping where if you enter the password into the waiting dialog box for syndefaultsd your machine locks up completely.

Glad to have found a way round it by turning off the lock keychain option, but since that makes your machine more inescure it's hardly an optimal workaround.

Apple could do with fixing this bug.

Annoyingly I don't actually use iCloud so I don't know why it feels the need to request a password as it shouldn't be doing any syncing!

So as I was checking on this I realized that those settings Serenak mentioned were off to begin with; however, when I ran a first aid verify, it said that those settings are active and may cause a problem...

I turned the settings on, saved, turned them off and saved again. Then when I ran the verify in the first aid the warning line was gone.

I think that the bug has to do with a conflict in the setting Serenak mentioned, so my 2 cent is to change the settings and then back to what it was just to cycle through a 'save.'

This is exactly what fixed my machine, turning off the automatic locks on my keychain when the machine goes to sleep. I reset my keychain but that didn't help, tried this solution on my own, then saw S. Assassin did the same thing. Hope this helps others..!

I have had this problem since I enabled iCloud...

and if the Mac is asleep and I wake it and the requester is up entering the password will cause the Mac to go in to a state where only a hard reset will get you out of it...

This seems to be a bug affecting the use of iCloud if the keychain is set to lock after inactivity or on sleep. Go to Utilities > Keychain Access, select and unlock the login keychain and then go to Edit > Change settings for Login Keychain. Now turn off Lock after X minutes of inactivity, and disable Lock when sleeping.

This should fix the problem - Apple need to fix the crash though, I don't mind it asking for the password, and I don't mind if iCloud isn't working if the requester comes up when the Mac is idle or sleeping but not having the request answered shouldn't break the system (which it currently does) and using iCloud shouldn't mean you can't lock your login keychain...

I've also carried out the entire 'reset your keychain' approach. Found when I opened the old keychain the problem recurred. Copied all keychain items into the new, reset keychain, problem just switched focus to new keychain. The only thing that's helped has been turning off the lock settings.

Which really bugs me, on account of making my machine less secure.

I've tried cyberroth's advice to turn off the locks, save, & turn them back on, but in particular it's the 'lock on sleep' option that brings the annoyance back.

Man, I hope they fix this!

We just updated my wife's computer to Lion from Snow leopard and had the same syncdefaultsd message problem.

What I did to fix it was:

1. Go to Applications > Utilities folder > Keychain Access.

2. Once Keychain Access starts then go to: Keychain Access menu > Keychain First Aid.

3. Fill in User Name and Password. I selected Repair and pressed Start.

(It found an error with Mail sync in our case) and reported the issue was repaired.

4. Then I restarted.

We have had no problems with the syncdefaultsd message since.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, fdoug!! I've been trying to fix this problem for quite awhile now, and this finally seemed to change something, because I found out that my "Library keychain was not the same login as the keychain access." I did this repair, and we'll see if it continues to accept it without giving me the error message from now on.
