How to Export ICloud Contacts To A File

If you are running on Windows with Outlook by default when you open the ''vCards de iCloud exportadas.vcf' exported by iCloud it will open with Outlook.

You can right click on the file, 'Open with', 'Windows Contacts'. It will open the contacts one by one and you'll be able to import them. It is not the easyest way to do it but it works.

Other way (the best for me) is importing the file in gMail. Yes my friend, gMail will import ALL the contacts from the vcs card to your gMail account.

I tried this, but it did not work. I have 114 contacts and when I import the vcf file into Windows-Outlook, only the first contact is imported (even though all 114 contacts were selected when I performed the export). Suggestions?

You can't import this into Outlook. Try to import it into Windows Contacts or gMail contacts.

I am also struggling to export my contacts from icloud. I "Select all" contacts, then select "Export vCard", then choose the location and file name. However when I select "Save" or "Save as" I get a message at the bottom of the screen - " <file name> couldn't be downloaded", with options to Retry or Cancel. A usual, only Cancel works.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks

Ok I've solved this myself but will post the solution in case it helps anyone else.

1. Close Internet Explorer.

2. Run exactly the same sequence as above, but in Firefox instead.

3. Simples!

ok this is what I did.

I wanted to copy all my contacts (around 700) from iPhone 4 (saved and synched in Apple iCloud) to HTC/Android phone contacts and into Google Email Contacts, using Windows PC. I don't have Mac! But I did have online file storage cloud (e.g. DropBox, Box.net or Oxygencloud.com) that are now in common use and are free. I didn't have to connect any phone to the PC to do this.

1. Login to iCloud website (I used Firefox) with the same Apple ID used on your iphone for iCloud contacts. Once logged in, browse to Contacts and ensure that you can see all your contacts. Select correct format e.g. US or UK etc for time and address settings etc by clicking on cog.

2. Export all contacts to your desktop as e.g. blah.vcf file, export option is available in settings (click on cog) in iCloud website you just logged in.

3. Using your PC, upload this blah.vcf file to your file storage cloud (e.g. DropBox, Box.net or Oxygencloud.com). You do need to have this installed and signed up with an account to use it.

4. From your HTC phone (provided the same cloud app is inatalled on it from above list), browse to that blah.vcf file. Onec you click and hold that file with the intent to open it, it will ask you whether you want to use your Phone Contacts application (in HTC it is People) to open that file. That should import all contacts into your Phone Contact application.

5. Login to your google email and go to Contacts. Click to import those contacts you exported on the desktop blah.vcf. All contacts should be successfully imported to Gmail Contacts.

Your iCloud original Contacts should still be safely stored in iCloud and you also have a copy offline on your desktop as blah.vcf.

Issue: There is no easy way to automatically synch all these contacts stored in iCloud, Gmail and in HTC Phone's Contact application. This is where iPhone works best so you have synched copy of local contacts and stored online on iCloud, but still no way to inject these into and keep synched with Gmail Contacts.

However I am moving away from iPhone, as iPhone is very good gadget for everything else but a rubbish/unreliable "phone", where as Android has a reliable phone function with whatever other features it has to offer.

iCloud.com export function will export only ONE VCF at a time, even if you have ALL CONTACTS selected.

You can select all and export them all at once.

I am hitting a road block too. I am trying to export all my contacts from one mac to another.

Mac A - 10.7.: contacts are in iCloud but i can still export them all to an address book archive.

Mac B - 10.6.8: When i try to import the archive ( .abbu ) file i eventually have to force quit address book because it is not responding. That happens when i try file/import or if i double click the file.

Exporting one contact at a time works but i have too many and im trying to avoid syncing them with google or yahoo or any 3rd party.

Hi, Are you sure you can select all contacts in iCloud and have them in a single VCF file? According to Apple this is not possible. Any help would be appreciated. I have 1000+ contacts in iCloud that I'm trying to get into Outlook 2013 data file. Thanks!

Worked great for me using Outlook 2010 (on Windows 7 w/ Chrome). Everyone is correct that it shows as one .vcf card, however, in Outlook, it also recreates every group from iCloud on to the computer's Contacts, which you can then export to Excel or whatever you like. it will say that its going to export the first contact on the list and e.g. 100 others - which for me meant it was going to create 101 files but actually it creates a file named e.g. adam and 100 others.vcf so its aaaall good:)

I must be doing something wrong I get the imported file that says x and xxx others but it is only 1200kb and i have about 1000 contacts. the single v-card opens but nothing else is there

From ICloud:

• Select All Files to Export
• Export files as Vcard

• Sign in to gmail account
• Go to contacts
• More
• Import
• Browse to the contacts vcard imported from icloud
• Import

All contacts from icloud should now be on you gmail account

To export to outlook:

• Go to contacts
• More
• Export
• go to contacts you would like to export and select (Outlook CSV format (for importing into Outlook or another application)

This will export the csv file that you will need to import into outlook

• Open outlook
• File
• Options
• Advance
• Export
• Import from another program or file
• Select comma separated values
• Select the csv file you exported from gmail
• Click next

Select where in your contacts you want to import your icloud contacts to

This should do it! 🙂

The easiest way that I have found to do this is using Outlook 2013:

1.) Export Contacts from iCloud

2.) Import them into your GMail account

3.) Export them fom your GMail account as a CSV file.

4.) Go to Outlook, File, Open/Export, Import/Export, open the CSV file and click ok!
