Running iWeb 3.0.2 on a MacBookPro running 10.6.5.

Publishing via FileZilla to our domain name http://www.uppercrustcheltenham.biz/

Copied everything to the host server, then moved html files and folders up one level to avoid having the <Sitename> in the url.

If I use http://www.uppercrustcheltenham.biz/index.html or http://www.uppercrustcheltenham.biz/Home.html, I get the desired result.

But if I just use http://www.uppercrustcheltenham.biz/ it produces the 'Index of' page, which I thought meant there was no index.html file. And there obviously is.

Any help, very gratefully received.

Paul

It appears that the server is not configured properly.

Add a .htaccess file to the root of the server and paste this code :

<IfModule dir_module>
     DirectoryIndex index.html index.php
</IfModule>

Read this page to learn how to add a .htaccess file :

And read this to learn how to avoid the Sitename in the URL :

Possible causes :

1. Typing error

2. The server does not allow that directive.

3. Or the user is not allowed to add the directive.

It's best to contact support and ask them to solve it.

Is this your host? http://www.advantage-interactive.com or http://www.lcn.com/web_hosting

If so, then on this page :

http://www.lcn.com/support/articles/how-to-upload-files-to-your-website-with-ftp

there's some small print that says :

Your website homepage file should be called index.html. If there is no index file the default holding page will be displayed when you visit your website.

If that doesn't work for you, then contact them about it.

Hmmm, not sure what I've done now.

But I copied the line in the linked site you mentioned (php_flag short_open_tag off) and copied that over.

But then I couldn't locate the file I copied, then it appeared. That was probably just the server catching up.

I thought I'd clear them all out and start again.

So I deleted the htaccess off the server, in prep for copying a clean one over.

The VERY odd thing is, that it now works!

I'm tempted to just let it go and relax, but the engineer in me is quite upset 🙂

But your suggestion must be at the bottom of this now being fixed, so very many thanks. I'll mark your answer as correct.

I'm wondering if the instructions in htaccess were run on the server and put that server into a fixed state, and my subsequent deletions of those files became irrelevant.

chers again, Paul.

Many thanks for the suggestion.

I followed the instruction and now get:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@uppercrustcheltenham.biz and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Apache/1.3.37 Server at www.uppercrustcheltenham.biz Port 80
Was I supposed to put any other lines into the .htaccess other than the 3 you mentioned?
thanks again for the time,
Paul
