iPhone 4S "no service" problem

hello all,

Just got my iPhone 4S 18hrs ago and it wen to "no service" like 3 times (so far)!!

  • I have changed carrier setting to manual I can select my network but still "no service"
  • I turned on then off "airplane mode" it goes searching... then "no service"
  • it only work when I restart or reinsert the SIM

Is this common? do I have to worry ?

Appreciate your inputs.

Thanks,

Abdullah

I had the same problem today, once I put the phone on airplane mode then turned it off it showed service again. If this continues I will take it back to the store.

I had my iPhone 4S relaced for an unrelated issue (drop) and still have this issue... so has anyone considered it might actually be AT&T (or Verizon or Sprint?) my wife has an iPhone 5 and she still has a signal when I don't, but then of course it's on LTE, so perhaps it is AT&T that is casuing the issue. I haven't taken the time to talk to AT&T because it feels pointless, they'll say they are working on it I'm sure. So for now, toggling Airplane mode puts it in Searcing... mode again and it'll find a signal, however a very weak one, 1 bar (this is at my house which has historically had full strength 5 bars)

So before you curse Apple perhaps it is the network? Or has anyone had experience with a dropped phone having a damged SIM? is this possible? That's the only other possibility...

I am really tired. Now I have updated to iOS 6.0.1 (I usually update as soon as possible, waiting this issue is solved).

I am not going to update anymore any version of Apple iOS until a week (even more, or never) of its release date.

Today I have another horrible issue!!!!!!!! If it is not enough with the no service issue, now I can't connect to a WiFI Network!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The button to enable/disable WiFI in my iPhone is grey, and it is disabled!!!!!!

This post tells about it: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4327676?start=0&tstart=0

This is shaming Apple!!!! Just do something now!!!!!!!!!! Apple *****!!!!!

I will never buy again an Apple Product. And I will tell all of my families, friends, partners that they do the same.....

I don't have words...... It's very sad, Apple.... I think you were a good and confiable company.

Yups...

It is the same with me, but not the Wi-Fi issues.

I've read many posts here, and watch many videos at YouTube, actually even though they are using many ways to recover the issues, actually they did the same things, they are just resetting the phone/network setting.

Even the trouble shooting guide from Apple is to reset the unit…

A ridiculous solution… it is sound like “if you found that your PC is not responding, just press the reset button…” This action will recover your PC (of course!), but surely will not fix the cause...

I know there are some issues of replacing the SIM card, but trust me, nothing is wrong with your SIM card.

I plan to buy some new Ipads for my family in the next two months, but I notice, since Mr Jobs went to other dimensions, it seems like perfection is not Apple’s value anymore; unfortunately, I pay a lot for perfection of their quality…

Apple hasn’t solved this issue until now; so, surely it is time for me to say big NO NO to purchase other products of Apple…

it had been 2 months since this failure note appears... yes, my almost USD1000 gadget, is not an iphone anymore, it is just an ordinary mobile phone...

btw, is it a hardware issues, or just the OS issues? nobody so sure I think... even Apple itself... 🙂

i had the same issue for the last two months, tried everything suggested but none of them helped. İ finally, i took the phone to a i phone repair service in İstanbul, and was told that it is a hardware issue and they fixed it. İt cost me about 150 dolar but it worked, really the problem is permanently solved. İ dropped it couple of times before this problem occured. However the problem occured not right after the dropping so İ thought this should be a software problem. İ wish i took it to the repair service before. İ tried to use the phone for two months, resetting , restoring replacing the sim randomly. That was a nightware;(. İ would suggest to replace the phone if you have guarantee, otherwise take it to a technician. Good luck

update... now the Wi-Fi also fail... 😀

thank you for the update, so it is mostly a hardware issues rather than OS...

As far as I know, I never drop my device, or bang it into something. But your inforamtion is really helpful,

if I know this info earlier, I will not expect anything while resetting or restoring the unit. just reset the unit when it failed, and bring the unit to service center when I have time.

Yes, I have guarantee.
